Guild Wars Maps

Hey People

I am thinking of starting Guild Wars and was wondering what is the easiest way to get the maps?

I am going to be purchasing the box set with all the expansions soon..so how much will I need to download in game? Can someone give an approximate amount of bandwidth that will be needed to download if I have all exapnsions installed already?

Have a similar thread on MyBB and they said the easiest way is to get someones file with all the areas explored.

I know Lydon plays alot of GW, so can u maybe give me some advice? :)

Hellos :)

It's hard to say, as the boxes have been redesigned and released with different clients over the years. Considering you're going to be purchasing the Complete Collection, which is the newest of products, it should include the large majority of updates made in the past to different areas.

However, Guild Wars updates are very, very small anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about bandwidth if I were you. You'll be downloading the updates incrementally as you play, so bandwidth usage will be spread out over a long period of time. If you're worried about waiting for the download of updates to finish in the middle of play, I wouldn't worry either, as it usually only takes around a minute or two per area.

When you install Guild Wars, you could right-click on its shortcut and insert "-image" at the end of the shortcut's path, which will open the Guild Wars updater and begin downloading all files you don't have. If you deem this to be too much, you could simply get someone who has an updated copy of the game to copy their guildwars.dat file for you and replace yours with theirs :)

Welcome MissM :)

Yeah, I used to play guild wars on dialup back in the day and the map loading is really not an issue. You only update the maps of the areas you play in. You can also run an update (ask me later) that does the pulling in the background when you're not playing the game.

Have a chat with Shadowfox and Lydon - as well as Chris_H & Devill on myBB. All of those lads are extremely helpful.

I'll try find the link to a page that has all 3 area maps to download, that you can view as a jpg file - but best is to just go exploring and unlock areas as you progress. Make no mistake. Guild Wars is HUGE and you'll just get lost if you go around willy nilly.

Hey guys!

Thanx for ur advice :) Really helpful! I am looking to break away from WoW for a bit (partly coz I cant afford it atm..lol), so I am hoping this will satisfy my need for mmo's!

Aion looks pretty cool, but has a sub :(

I played GW back in 2006. I then switched over to WoW and I gave it up 3 months back and went back to Guild Wars.

Do yourself a favour and don't try and compare the two. They're vastly different games.

WoW is gear based ... GW is entirely skill based. And you can rearrange your skills and talent trees everytime you're in an outpost/city to adapt it for the area.

Raid bosses don't drop gear - they drop either weapons or epic "skills".

MissM ... if you're looking for an updated client you're welcome to give me a shout - or any of the guys in Cape Town, we'd be happy to burn it to a DVD for you.

Good Idea ... someone will then have a good excuse (and score serious brownie pts) to meet AvatarS & MissM at the CT MyG meet. ;)

Got the collector's edition myself - it has made a few updates so far but nothing serious. Haven't played in the last 2 months though.

Oh yes ... why didn't I think of that? I'll be at the meet, so if MissM is still coming I can give it to her there.

MissM, Shadowfox would like to stick you for a milkshake at the waterfront.

He'll also be dropping off the Guild Wars .dat files. Please wear something nice. :)

HAHAHAHAHA ... Voicy you bastard ... all my evil plans are for naught now :p

Screw the Waterfront though ... Century City and Tygervalley are closer to both of us ^^

wow! lots of response! :) hehe! Chris_H helped me out with the .dat file. Burned a DVD for me with the updated file and gave it to me yesterday. Thanx for ur offer tho Voicy! :)

U guys going to go to the MyBB meet next weekend?

@Shadowfox, Tygervalley is closest for me ;)

MissM, It's my pleasure :)

Chris_H is a legend. He's been helping me out on guild wars quite a lot with his rit. Ask him to show you the kief wings I gave him. *flex*

As for Tygervalley, Shadowfox would love to meet you there for skommelshakes this weekend. He's just too shy to openly ask you. But at least he's not some lametard jock who only talks about "chicks, sports and cars". Heck, If I still lived in CT, I'd have offered to stick you for skommelshakes instead!

Don't worry shadowfox, I'm cool like that :D

hehe! :) U guys are so sweet! :) *blush*

Shadowfox, u should come to the MyBB meet next weekend! :)

Btw, my favourite milkshake flavour is chocolate ;)

I might be there - it really depends on how well my exam prep is going ... so it's touch and go at the moment, since my exam prep isn't going anywhere right now :p
