Guild Wars still worth it after all this time?

I'm bored of both Eve and WoW, so I'm considering getting the GW trilogy on Steam. Is it still worth it, though, and how big is the client? I don't want to spend the next two weeks downloading it if it's not really worth playing anymore.

Definitely yes. There are the 3 campaigns and then 1 expansion; alot of playtime to go through all the content. Arenanet still has a Live Team that keeps the game up to date; with Guild Wars Beyond content added last year, and the newest content Winds of Change released a month ago. They still plan to support the game even after release of Guild Wars 2. Do not expect persistent areas to explore like in WOW, its different entirely, with most content being instanced. I have never loved WOW, and have been playing Guild Wars since 2007... and I can say that there is still alot I havent done in the game; there is always something to do.

There are alot of players that returned to prepare for Guild Wars 2 especially, when the GW2 Hall of Monuments Calculator was released.

I bought the trilogy on Steam's summer sale. Have not gotten around to playing yet - mostly because the first time I started it it downloaded a massive patch, and then the next time I started it and selected a campaign, it downloaded about 600MB worth of campaign data.

The music in the menu screens is amazing though :P

I'll give more feedback once I've had a chance to play it properly.

Why don't you buy the exclusives one (retail version). I saw it at IC yesterday, I think it was R60 or something. So no download and as far as I know it might be a lot cheaper. Check them out

I have the prophecies SE soundtrack CD with the menu screen songs etc. and yes, it is quite amazing. I often listen to it while driving long distance or working late nights in the office.

I started playing GW again recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Added myself a lvl10 warrior and lvl20 paragon to my existing old chars. So far my elementalist is still owning.

The gear in GW looks much better than any other MMO I've played to date.

Yes the game itself after install updates about 1gb of data. Standard install is about 3.8Gb, after update it should be around 4.8gb+.

The best advice I can give you is to find a buddy who has updated his Guild Wars and then just copy the gw.dat file from him. Enter your account info and voila, you're ready to play.

Guild Wars isn't the same game it was years 2 years ago. The amount of content that was added, the updates every week (maybe 1mb in size) keep the game fresh and balanced.

The 3 campaigns in Guild Wars are HUGE and with over 800 quests to keep you busy and about 90 - 100 missions and 12 dungeon, you will be quite busy. Also all areas have Hard Mode once you've completed the campaigns and this adds a whole new level of difficulty to the game.

The game is also quite active as many people are hunting titles to get the cosmetic rewards and titles for Guild Wars 2.

There are also elite areas as part of the end game content, but this is normally dominated by elitist cunts, if you want to play these areas, join a guild get ask them to organize or organize a run of those areas yourself.

Experiment with your professions and builds until you get something you really love to play with.

It is a great game and if you really get stuck in it and play you can complete all the campaigns in less than a month, and if you do the bonus missions for them as well you will have 3 titles to add to your Hall of Monuments.

ArenaNet have made it easier for you to explore and farm titles. They made it possible for you to fill your party with Heroes. Heroes are almost like the henchmen you will encounter in the game - although Prophecies doesn't have any heroes at all. Heroes can be equipped with various weapons and focus items and their attributes can be changed at any time.

Here are some Pro Tips:

Use the WIKI - GUILD WARS WIKI IS YOUR FRIEND! - http://wiki.guildwars.com/
If you need build assistance - PVX.WIKIA.COM - but its fun to build your own.
Ask a friend or ask us for some help.

Anyways I will be playing tonight, you can friend me in game - Arina Methos - the most awesome Warrior ever! xD

Goodness Crisis! Soulcollector just reminded me of Builds!

If you've played any MMO where you optimize your character's build, you'll be shocked by GW. i had the PERFECT build on my ele ... only to have every 2nd spell of mine be immune when I faced certain mobs in a new area.

You can't just roll into town thinking you're the main oke and pew pew your way through content. Each area has its preferred build and you'll have to optimize accordingly.

I must admit though, having heroes is the single coolest thing! I generally run with a core group and you quickly figure out what works and what doesnt. (Heroes = NPC's you recruit and you can customize their armor/weapons and builds)

Ah the builds... Probably the most awesomest thing about Guild Wars.

Over 2400 skills to choose from 10 professions and then PvP versions of those skills and then PvE only skills. So much choice and only 8 skill slots xD. Choose them wisely.

Yep since the add-more-than-3-heroes change, the game just became even more fun when you are not playing with other groups. Made some areas possible to complete with grouping which was impossible to do because henchies arent allowed to be everywhere.

Customizing and creating your own build / team build is also what makes this game interesting... with all the combinations of professions making 1000s of combinations of skills (not all good combos though :D)

7 Hero DEEP run FTW!!!

So worth it, bough Prophecies for a friend to try out, he went and bough Factions, Nightfall and EoTN 2 days later. Haha!! from WoW to GW ;) *successfully converted*

Okay, I'm convinced. Will buy them in stages. I can't really pinch off the entire R200 this month, so I'll buy prophecies this weekend, then buy factions and the other one next month.

Try to get Prophecies and Eye of the North, it really expands prophecies a lot and you'll have access to heroes too and some awesome weapons and armour sets and don't forget the dungeons too.

Prophecies was the best MMO I ever played. Everything from scenery to story was just that good. I am currently playing WOW but it will never have the same RPG experience IMO. The other GWs was boring though.

Does EOTN and Nightfall have totally different areas or do they just upgrade prophecies and factions? Was thinking of getting EOTN and Nightfall

Nightfall is based on Elona, a different continent, while EOTN is located in Tyria like Prophecies, but has totally new areas to explore than Prophecies, EOTN has alot of new content : dungeons, 10 new heroes and a new story that happens after the other three campaigns.
