Hackers in movies

One of the most memorable hacker movies has to be Hackers. Flying around in 3D worlds accessing files all while frantically typing away at public phonebooths. I loved the movie. :D

They really need to make this happen.

The whole folder structure thing is getting a little bland.

I've seen some custom Windows shells years ago that attemtped it. Looked pretty cool, but it was inefficient as hell. Took you 5 times longer to peform general tasks.

I'm all for experimental UX and even apply a lot of it in my work, but I end up scrapping most of it due to inefficiency or too much change management. Some ideas stick though, like one comsumer product we're busy building. First phade goes live middle Dec. :)

This is how I am starting to feel about HUD in starcitizen its all nice and stuff but very ineffective.

I know what you mean. Someone will pull it off eventually though.

If you think about it - the folder structure is so far removed from how humans think. e.g. Method of loci. There has to be a better way than folders...

>sit in coffee shop with laptop
>load Umbrella Corp screen
>hack away
>order cappuccino and enjoy
>let people see your 1337 skills
>drop vial of water on floor
>put on gas mask and leave

That scene from Swordfish....aahhhhhhhhh...minus the gun of course.

The commodore 64 screen grabbed me first, first ever computer I worked on. Not that I ever had one, but the Commodore 64 even had a modem!

and I've seen hackers about 20 times, so I can probably hack The Matrix or Cyberdyne Systems if I had to!
