Hackers Lament

Frustration boils - exploding point reached!!!!

I have been playing a game on my Ipad for the last couple of months called Clash of Clans, it is one of these online multiplayer, build your village and destror someone elses games, great fun, I even promo'd the game here on this forum. What I liked most it was free, Totally free, they only asked you to spend money if you wanted to progress faster. Basically you use gems to get builders and speed up production, because of this, and because I have a severe case of short arms and long pockets, I have been saving my gems to buy another builder, 3 months I have been saving... ONLY TO COME HOME AND FIND MY GAME HAD BEEN HACKED AND MY GEMS WERE GONE!!!

the whole thing, just put me off the game and I have now stopped playing, because some idiot wanted to ruin it for the rest of us.

I wondered if any of you had stopped playing a game because of hackers, and which game was hit the worst, and then I wondered what the hell the hackers get out of it, is some 13 year old sitting in his bedroom counting all my gems, I mean why do it???

anyways I was hoping you would all share your thoughts and experiences

lol...I hear ya.

I have had my Diablo account hacked, but luckily security measures i had in place caused the account to be frozen immediately on someone logging in from unknown IP address....I normally quit games because of ragers, immature kids and ridiculous kids that like to talk big cause they hiding behind a keyboard. :D

For the safety and longevity of my screen, keyboard and mouse, I refrain from playing these games for long periods of times lol :D

I really had hoped to hear more opinions, I reckon its like crime, just another fact of life

It's just how unlucky you get.
Hackers affect us even when we don't get hacked.

When playing anything with an online market.
Someone will exploit the system and if you face someone abusing those exploits your game is still affected.
This is everything from World of warcraft to farmville.

We only feel the hit very hard when we are hacked and our digital property is commandeerd.

I've been hacked once and never again. I took it as a learning experience for online life the same way I don't let someone shoulder surf when I enter my pin.

yes, but how does the layman protect himself, especially in the gaming environment

I have had my blizzard account hacked twice, nothing stolen both times since i don't play WoW (only play SC2)

I despise hackers that use cheats to ruin the game for everyone else,i even posted a video with clear evidence of a hacker and some ignorant people tried to defend him.

I knew he was a hacker since he killed a bunch of people on caspian border long range in BF3 with an automatic handgun that is only effective at killing people a few feet in front of you.

I killed him a few times by abusing client side hit detection.

There's a bunch of ways that the layman can get in on the action.

Up to date anti virus should be a given but is often neglected.
For blizzard titles there is the authenticator.

And the most important, users of the interwebs need to educate themselves in web security.
When someone I know get's compromised I install both windows essentials and AVG then show them how to update it.
I then teach them how to look for SSL on sites and how to avoid downloading dodge things.
Lastly I have a quick talk about social engineering.

If you make even the smallest effort you will thwart most script kiddies and email scammers.
But it remains up to the end user.

I've done hacker training with one of the worlds leading security authorities situated in the States.
We were taught how to hack from the most hardcore level up to social engineering.

The scary thing is how easy it actually is.
As an excercise we social engineered one of our departments using only knowledge that was publically available and we gained administrative system acces to various pieces of key software before lunch. Be paranoid, just like you would be in real life at 12PM at a red robot in a dodge district. The only diff is that the whole internet is dodge.

I stopped playing counter strike source for a little while because of hackers. Not the same sort of hacking you talking about, but still hacking I guess. They were honestly making it no fun at all.

yeah, its ridiculous how they can ruin a game for everybody, I have no problem with people cheating on single player games, but as soon as other people are involved
