Hackers promise payback against Sony

ag please, these guys dont have the resources of man power to take on sony in that regard, these guys should be careful tho(the hackers) as the saying goes, in order to defeat hackers you have to use hackers, i would be surprised if sony did this, it would make a clear example of their resolve. Sony ahve a right to protect their product and thier integrity towards the customers who do pay and want the service. This homebrew nonsense is just a scapegoat of cheapskuits who want free and cheap games which in turn will bugger it up for us, as seen already with hacking without any consequence.

I say good for Sony, take them on

If you keep in mind that these guys actually took Paypal offline for a limited period of time (especially considering the levels of security Paypal has in place) - and have also managed to affect Google's services (once again, massively robust systems in place) and have managed to DDoS Twitter (which probably isn't all that difficult) - the idea probably isn't all that far-fetched.

Besides, if you take the ratio of hackers in the world vs the number of people in Sony employ who specifically concentrate on their web-based properties, I think you'll find Sony lagging far behind.
 
Gamers have also been observed entering the IRC channel and appealing to the attackers to stop as they are merely ruinging their gaming experiences.

One of the problems being experienced by Anonymous at this point in their offensive against Sony is a lack of ‘script kiddie’ minions to pull of the necessary scale of DDoS attack.

Well, one would hope that when they make so bold a statement as they have, that they've at least done some rudimentary research on what Sony's environment/architecture is like, and made some guesstimate that they do have the 'power' (both from a technology and a ideology standpoint) to actually challenge them.

Otherwise they're just wasting everyone's time.

I, for one, would like to see them try... just to know that 'the people' still can challenge the fat cats (regardless of the merits/motivation behind it)
I would hate to think that we live in a world where we have no possible recourse against a big corporate once it decides it wants to stomp on us
 
You know, taking down websites and putting pictures of AIDS is cool, Boxby pushed the line a bit, Casey was cool, LifeInATent was cool, I'd even support their WikiLeaks stuff, but this takes it too far. The issue's debatable. Going around and pushing your righteousness off onto other people just isn't right. Like a dick swinging competition...ONLINE!
 
The problem here is that Anonymous isn't looking at the big picture.

So they've gotten PSN and Sony sites to glitch a few times, but in the end you know who's actually getting the greasy end of the stick?

The users. The people who Anonymous "apparently" represent. Guys with PS3's who are now struggling to connect to the PS network. And the worst part is the fact that they're now gathering personal information on Sony employees and affiliate company employees, in order to tamper with their lives.

Anonymous has proven how brutally efficient they are in this regard in the past - problem being that they'll be going after low-end stiffs who have no effect on policy decisions within the company. Folks who are just doing their jobs and want to go home at the end of the day and forget everything and spend time with their families.

There are other ways to go about this - and this isn't the right one.

"we didn't intend to harm the consumers..." really? then why attack the PSN in the first place idiots...

what if 5 months down the line all Developing Houses decide that developing for the PS Console is to risky and they stop.

Hmmm What will they Pirate then??? Cause there is nothing to pirate!
Oh but sorry, they just want to run homebrew.....

I've got a theory (and it's probably close to right) about why Sony has those T&C's in place - people who run homebrew on their machines stand a pretty good chance of either bricking the things or screwing them up entirely - and guess whose job it is to fix it.

And of course, there's a lot of fighting along the way because no one wants to pay for the repairs of the machine they broke in the first place.

I disagree. Brick your router, phone or even PS3 with unofficial firmware and you've voided the warranty. It's a risk you take upon yourself, as always and this is made clear anywhere that provides cooked/unofficial firmware.

If you're messing with that without an understanding of the risks involved then boohoo for you when things go wrong.

Do you think Sony would replace/repair a damaged chipped PS2 under warranty? The concept is much the same.

That's more or less what I meant to say :D But I'm almost 100% sure that there are people who take chances and try and get Sony to do the repair-work anyways.
