Half-life 3 is in development

I wonder how many people really even care any more. It's been such a long time that I worry it'll result in the Duke Nukem effect--overhyped expectations the game can't live up to.

But I guess fans will be happy to get their hands on it after so long.
 
I think the correct question in this case is, "How long will it be worked on for?"
 
Like I said in the news section, I'll wait for Gabe the torture master to confirm, until then, HL3 doesnt exist in my little mind.
 
When did we move from HL-e3 to just HL3? It seems one day people forgot there had to be an episode 3 and just decided the next one will be HL3.

Anyway, too little too late. Sorry Valve, I don't know what you were thinking, but you were really dumb with this whole thing. I don't know whose idea it was to make fans wait 7 years and still not reveal anything concrete about the game, but they really dropped the ball on this one.

Actually I think the general response in this thread is exactly what Valve wants. An overwhelming "meh" or disbelief. It means that people are so tired of waiting for it that they no longer care so much. Because Valve has had to deal with a MASSIVE amount of "want it now", "going to be so good" etc. kind of hype that there is no way the game would live up to it, even if it was good. It feels like it's at just the right spot to actually be developed.
 
I don't understand why everyone got so worked up about HL3.

There was supposed to be an e3, but maybe they decided to hold up and rather make one big project out of HL3 instead, like an AWESOME sequel, new engine etc. Valve's games have always been about longevity and quality. I really don't mind waiting for HL3. I think it's going to be too epic for words.

As for the people saying too little too late- If ever there was a better example of that, that award would go to GTA 5. The game has been out now for months and it still hasn't been released on PC. Rockstar done f****d it up real good with that one. If there's any game I have lost legitimate interest in, even after being a fan for countless years, it's GTA 5. I don't think I'll even get that game anymore.

No more floating guns. I want to really feel like I am freakin Gordon Freeman. Actually make it for the Oculus. Damn valve....if it wasn't for steam.......

You know what? If they tie together the story lines of Portal and Half-Life and give me portal gun in HL3, I'll be happy.

Maybe even have a part where you go into the Team Fortress universe, and a first person Dota segment :P Hahahaha. With a portal gun and the actual "portal" in the game, anything is possible :P

He did ask fans if they would rather have a full game years ago. I think they working on a new engine and want to try and make it a trully epic adventure. Maybe they want to wait till they have something good to show. I wouldn't say it will be close to dukes crappy come back.

Didn't see tooks post sorry tooks. Tooks has the right idea.

I think extra care is being taken into account. Its his baby after all.

It's not super far-fetched. You could find the dock where the Borealis was built in Portal 2 since it's an Aperture vessel. Plus Chell was placed into Stasis for who knows how long until she gets awoken in Portal 2. So there's a possibility it takes place in the same time period.
