Hands on with Kinect (MyGaming)

This is really sad to hear, I was hoping the Kinect was going to be as awesome as the video they showed off last year!

I'm seriously doubting purchasing this now :(

I already commented on this at the front page, but yeah, this is sad news indeed. I still have high hopes on the PS3 Move.

Then again, let's just remember that Tinman did sound a bit biased about motion controls even though he did say he "had an open mind". I still think his expectation may have been a bit too high and that caused a massive "let down".

Like 3D Gaming, some gamers will love it and other will hate it. It would be a much safer, and smarter choice to wait until you can personally try it out for yourself BEFORE you judge this technology and write it off as a "novelty".

I am trying not to expect to much from this, as it is the first model.
It can be polished and improved on as the technology advances.

Definitely still getting the Kinect bearing in mind that I won't be expecting to play GoW3 running around the living room right off the bat. (though that would be awesome)

That's possible, although I did try my best to like it. I guess you guys will see for yourselves in a few months.

Although I should probably add that I discussed it with other gaming journalists there, and most of them felt the same. I did not meet anyone who was enamored by it.

Right now there isn't anything on Kinect that makes me want to buy it. I wish some devs could be persuaded to experiment with a more radical game design.

If motion sensing was the new "AWE" of gaming, then the Eye Toy would have done a lot better, yet it was a gimmick, and Sony didn't seem to go back to it until the announcement of the Move. I wish developers would stop looking to motion sensing and concentrate on making real gamer better.

I have ALWAYS said kinect was EyeToy version 2................

And the Eye Toy didn't last very long and most people got over it very quickly. Then again, I'm pretty sure this is being directed more to casual gamers and since they have the moola, the developers are going to go after them. Kinda sad...

If you guys reckon Microsoft is targeting the casual gamer and basically just milking them. I have news for you...Have you bought a wii recently?

When I come to think of it, for Microsoft and Sony. the Wii tested the market pretty well and when they saw the amount of moola that could be made from motion sensing, they took the opportunity. Nintendo, on the other hand, has always had its heart in the family/ multi-player arena - just look at the Gamecube (mind a few of the more hardcore games). Nintendo also tried to introduce something innovative to the market, which is pretty respectful considering the abominable lack of innovation these days, and it just happened to appeal more to the casual market. When you compare Nintendo to those other two capitalistic giants, you have to wonder the different reasons for them introducing their respective motion sensing abilities.
