Hardcore gamers less likely to have nightmares: Study

I think its due to gamers being most at home in situations that most non gamer people might cause other people to be afraid or anxious. Most games have some or other negative event at its core; nuclear war, zombie-outbreak, terrorist, alien invasion, a turtle dragon kidnapping your girlfriend.... since we are bombarded with this in our gaming hours our subconscious no-longer perceive it as "bad" or fear inducing, Instead we like it. Most of my nightmares are of rather ordinary occurrences; being at my old job having not captured invoices for six months, the current example I'm working on not working out no matter what I do.

On the positive side now we know how to prevent PTSD... play games.

The hardcore gamers’ dreams were far less threatening than the less-frequent participants. The less-frequent also tended to be passive victims in the dreams, while hardcore gamers were active participants.

'tis true! I haven't had a nightmare in years and I've always been "in charge" of situations in my dreams. I laaik dreaming

I find I'm a bit different, if I don't game for a while I start to dream again, (as opposed to not dreaming at all when I game) I think gaming (not anime, series, movies etc.) stimulates something in my brain, and when that stimulation is gone my brain tries to make up for it.
