Hi Guys

Please advise what in your opinion would be the better buy for performance and longevity

i7-3770K 3.5GHZ or i5-3570K 3.4GHZ

GPU

Gigabyte GeForce GTX670OC Edition 2GB or

Gigabyte Nvidia GTX660 2GB Winforce 2x OC 192-Bit

Thanks in advance

The i5 is more optimized for gaming, presumably the op is saying i5 and 670 or i7 and 660.
The first option would yield better gaming results for price value. i7 would yield better video editing and processor heavy results but the i7 is R1k or so more expensive.

Just a question TJ, why the i5 and not the i7? If money was not a factor?

I definitely agree on the 7950 though... got mine, and it's sweet!!!!!

Games don't utilize HT, so in essence you're wasting money on getting a i7 if the machine is for gaming.
If money wasn't a problem I would go for the i7, but purely because cash isn't a problem. There will be no difference in gaming.
The only time you'll notice a difference between the 2 cpu's is if you do rendering or you convert dvd's ect.

OK Thanks, makes sense.

Also, if what Simon said was correct, I would definitely also go i5 and 670 over i7 and 660.

This is the spec that my budget allowed. Paid for. To put things in perspective, my current machine is a P4 3.2GB with 1GB RAM LOL.

I know it's only midrange, but should last me a while.

The 660 is a good card, but the bus width will probably be your bottleneck at high resolutions. Still, all your other hardware is boss, so the only thing you may need to upgrade in a while is your graphics card.

Going with the i5 has already given you R1000 towards a new GPU. You will not see any difference in gaming.
