Have you ever stopped playing a good game because you didn't like the story?

There's a GIF for that
Have you ever stopped playing a game because you didn't enjoy the story, even though the gameplay was decent or even fun?

For me this happened with Dark Souls. I actually enjoyed the combat for the most part, but the lack of any story is what kept me from wanting to go back to it.

Another one that comes to mind was Kane and Lynch. The story starts off with one of them wanting to turn over a new leaf, but then the next minute he is gunning down an entire police force. That just didn't gel with me at all so I stopped playing it and never tried it again.

In a nutshell... every Dragon Age game, along with the Mass Effect titles, and don't forget the Deep Space titles, oh and the Bioshock franchise. Not to mention the Animus piece of trudge.

Don't recall any game I stopped playing 'cause I did not like the narrative.
Dark Souls I played for the gameplay and trying to advance albeit at a less than desirable pace. Such little given narrative, IMO, that I just focus on getting to the next bits and listening to little bit of dialogue.

The best part of the "SoulsBorne" series is that the story isn't thrown at you and if you want to know more you're going to need to dig deeper.

Edit: As for game I stopped playing. Assassins Creed 3, good lord can a main protagonist put me to sleep any more than Connor...

The 'Souls series doesn't have so much of a story as it does lore. The beauty of the community is discussion of what the story is or could be, it's open to interpretation.

Yes! Devil May Cry, Legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver, Dark Souls, Darksiders, Dante's Inferno etc. think there are a host of others.

I tend to not gel with games with an overly demonic or dark religious theme. Darksiders and Dante's Inferno are fantastic but I struggle to keep up with all the evil I guess. Hard to pinpoint what it is but they turn into real chores eventually. Still have them in my collection and intend to finish them one day.

bradbear117 ok i was struggling to come up with a game until i saw you mention Devil May Cry (4 i think)... The hack and slash vibe was awesome, and I really enjoyed the game play, but what a crap story...

Also I am a HUGE final fantasy fan, but FF 13... Wow... I cant even describe how difficult it was to try and get through that game...

i actually enjoyed the fact that the Souls games are not burdened with a heavy story. you are allowed to embrace and enjoy the exquisitely refined gameplay mechanics

One of the biggest let downs of the modern age... :/

Wow those are some of my favourite games of all time! Especially because of the stories! It's amazing how different people like different things.

I don't think I've ever stopped playing a game because of story. I normally stop playing if there are control problems or other game design issues.
