HD 4870 sells for €149 in Europe

Hmmm, so if you were to by an air ticket to Europe (cheapest is around R6000), then fly over, buy 10 HD 4870s at €149 (R1950.00 at todays exchange rate), sell them each locally for R2550 (R600 profit per card x 10 = R6000) you could effectively pay for the flight :D

Would it be illegal to do this without paying customs taxes and stuff?

Let me know when you are taking orders...

EDIT: And by the way, you will not pay import taxes on PC equipment. You will pay 14% vat, so that's like R300 per card.

I just got back from the UK and customs officials were saying something along the lines of "If you've spent more than 300GBP on yourself, that you're liable to pay duties on it"

I don't know myself about PC components and stuff, but was looking at getting some cards or other consumables from that side to resell.
Opted out for ale and beer instead :D
 
If the price were for some reason to drop some more, I'd have my mate in London buy and send it to me :p

R2k for a GPU just gives me the shivers :o

+1 i always buy the cheapest card available as long as it supports the minimum specs to run a game eg. shader model 3 I dont care, even if i have to run it @ 640x480 :p

Yeah I mean, I don't know what I'm specifically in the market for.
But if it could hold GRID, GTA IV (wishful thinking I know) and Vegas Six 2 together, then I'd be happy chappy. :p :D
Not really on High Res - unless I struck the jackpot and then kitted out a rig for R30k :D
