HD remakes on the horizon

When I saw Castle of Illusion it reminded me of it's sequel that I played on the Sega Mega Drive: World of Illusion
I remembering it being pretty good and a lot of fun in coop.

I am pretty bummed about buying the original versions of FFX and FFX-2 on PS2 the other day. I bought it purely for nostalgic reasons...but I could have had the HD versions.

I loved playing Abe's Odyssee years ago. I first played it on PlayStation, and later on PC. Needless to say I preferred it on PC because of the controls.

I think you hit the nail on the head. You can give the game a new coat of paint but it won't stand on its own in todays market.
Only purists will appreciate it for what it is.
That said I think an FF8 remake would do well even in todays market.

Also I think if they did do it in HD that game is so old it would have to be completely redesigned from the ground up. What made the game great for some people back then might be completely lost in the translation to HD, it's very possible that it could have a completely different, though unintended, look and feel. The more I think of it the more I'm changing my opinion on whether I'd like to see a remake at all.
