Hi guys I am going to be looking for about a 15m length of HDMI cable to from from my pc to my TV would any one have an idea where I could get some thing like this a does any one have an idea of what the cost of this might be

A 5m cable usually goes for around a hundred bucks. Cheap ones can be picked up at any electronics retailer.

Also bear in mind that you don't need a fancy brand: the signal is digital so even a budget one will do the job just fine.

Awesome thanks for the info I was expecting it to be like R2000.00 so thats great news

Hey man. Here is something that you might want to have a look at. Very interesting. You basically use Ethernet Cables to HDMI. very nice.

Yeah, I bought a 1.5 m cable from Hi-Fi Corp for R90 over the weekend. Saw some 5m ones for around R100-R200 mark. I also saw one for R1500

This is where I usally buy HD stuff: http://hdcabling.co.za/

The issue with HDMI cables is the longer the are the better quality they need to be to keep the signal strong. So the longer ones are usually exponentially more expensive then short ones.
Anything longer then 15m and you need to get a HDMI to Ethernet converter :)

What tanka was offering i got and it works, however with the exception that, your cable needs to be away from power units (i.E.plugs for charging, etc.) otherwise their will be either picture or sound issues.
Another thing if you are using the HDMi over cat 5 for your DSTV, you will have to make sure the output HDMi cable is HDCP complaint, otherwise DSTV will generate errors.

Thanks for the link!
Awesome place to find some of the more hard to find HDMI splitters/converters!

My avast antivirus just picked up a trojan on the site :(. Anyone else get that?

I think they got some security issues, the news letter stopped sometime ago cause they got hit by a spam bot, so now they are now blacklisted on Spamcop and the major spammer services.
So i wouldnt be suprised if the site is also getting attacked.

Hdcabling has awesome prices :P and in all fairness, a HDMI cable is a HDMI cable, just make sure the specifications fit your needs.

It is recommended that you use a HDMI Amplifier every 10 metres for quality retention
You can daisy chain these though so you do not necessarily need to go the route of converting to Ethernet

That HDMI to ethernet seems like quite an awesome idea. Could I simply hook up an HDMI to my current network and share it to a screen in the kitchen for example? Or does it have to be on its own separate network?

It's not actually over ethernet. It's over CAT5 or CAT6 cabling. It's just a cable, not on a network.

What do they cost and how much would one pay for a 10m HDMI cable?

I'm currently also looking for HDMI to HDMI, and scared I might get a "not good enough" one. Is there any brands that are perfect, or something?
