I recently purchased a Samsung 40B532 LCD TV. This is a full HD TV. However, when outputting a 1080P signal via HDMI from my PS3, I am getting a "mode not supported" on the TV when using HDMI ports 1 and 2. The HDMI 3 port accepts the 1080P signal however. All lower resolutions work on HDMI 1 and 2. My Xbox hooked up with a HDMI outputting 1080P works on all the HDMI ports.
I also own a Samsung 32B532, which I have been using as a PC monitor, and the PS3 via HDMI at 1080P works on all the HDMI ports. Note: This is the same Samsung TV model just with a different screen size.
When searching for a solution, I came across three possible solutions (below). A lot of the comments were that the PS3 and the TV were not "handshaking" the HDMI connection.
1) Buy a better quality HDMI cable. I am using a generic HDMI cable, but the cable gives no issues on either TV when using the Xbox and works on the 32" when using the PS3, so I can't see the cable being the issue.
2) Hold down the PS3 power button on startup to reset the display settings. I tried this but as soon as I choose 1080P I still get the "mode not supported" error.
3) Switch off the TV at the wall socket, hook up the PS3 then switch back on. This didn't work either.
Can someone provide some insight into this issue?
