Heart of the Swarm headed for 2012 release

Woth the wait.

Those awesome ingame cut scene's take 100's of hours to make specialy with the high quality of the art used.

Diablo III... ROLL OUT!

Surely Blizzard can invest in larger development teams to do projects parallel with each other?? I'm not one to comment on the inner working at Blizzard but they cant say they are not making enough money.... take WoW's 12 Million subscriptions....

...maybe I'm just impatient... cant wait for Diablo 3 and the rest of Starcraft II !!!!

i don't get it

so, they will release Heart of the swarm in 2012, and it will be a new SP campaign with tweaks to the MP?!?!

this is basically the definition of an expansion, right? as i doubt they will be overhauling the core engine or gameplay that much. So as this is an expansion by definition then i hope they charge this like an expansion and not the R550 bucks they did for the first episode. They are already tweaking the MP now for free, so i think it's BS to charge full price for tweaks to the MP in the next Episode!!!

Most likely Blizzard has planned the releases to maximize SC2's revenue over a long period of time. It wouldnt do any good if they released one expansion a year and then SC2 died 1 year after the last expansion. This way, they get to maximize revenue for years, like WoW, and justify a retail price that will be as much as some full games.

To be honnest, I baught the 1st game at full price, and I did my part for the game, the next two episodes aren't gonna have the same treatment because as kurike said, there little more than stand alone expansions. So mr bittorrent can say hello mr Heart of the Swarm and mrs Legacy of the Void.

Pretty sure you won't be able to play online without legal copies of the games.

That being said, I'm not sure its fair to call these "expansions". It's not like Lord of Destruction for Diablo where it was just one extra act, this is going to be a whole new single player campaign equal in length or longer than WoL. That combined with some big changes to Multiplayer. Add to that the fact that you're not charged to use Battle.Net for SC2 like you are for WoW... I don't really think its that big a deal.

Well Diablo isn't the best example. What about broodwars? That was an expansion and it had full length campaigns. And I never really cared much for the multiplayer anyways, it got really stale really fast. The singleplayer story has allways been the most compelling for me and right now I'm in the 6th replay.

Don't get me wrong, I would buy heart of the swarm under any one of three conditions:
1: It's releaced for much cheaper as an expansion.
2: There is full offline multiplayer support (Read - LAN)
3: The game has been completely remade instead of just copy'n'pasted 98% of the core game code.
