Hearthstone Thread

i have learned 2 things from my Arena expeditions. Firstly, you need to have a decent number of minions with TAUNT. it really helps to force your opponent to change their strategy and not just run wild. Secondly, you need at least a few "giant killers" like POLYMORPH, ASSASSINATE, etc. (bonus point : if you can get some AoE spells in, that helps too)

Not bad advice at all... The thing that bothers me about the Arena, and I know its fair the way it is, but you cant go with like a Murlock deck... Because you select 1 Murlock, and that may be the only one you get to pick... To me the arena is not really "hero" dependent, and you need to try get a game plan going while making your picks, its actually pretty strategic having to remember what cards you want to use to combo with etc...

The best you can do in Arena is get to know your cards, well ALL of the cards, then make sure the you pick the best card of the 3, watching streams really helps you learn what the other people think of certain cards, i know there's a website somewhere where they rate all the cards, can't remember what the name is, but will see if I can find it, that should help with picking a deck for Arenas

Ya but that's the big mistake people make in my opinion, because selecting the best of the 3 doesnt mean you will end up with a good deck... you need to sometimes refrain from going for the better card, in favour of a card that suits the deck....

True... but there's certain cards I wont pick at all in a deck, all depends on what kind of deck you have after you have selected about 20 cards, if its a mid-late game, make sure to pick some cards for defense early game ect.. its difficult. I tend to pick strongest cards till about 20/30, then the last 10 I review what I have and what I might need and then toss in whateva I get

spot on, totally agree. there may be some cards you could choose later that are killer in a particular context, but based on the previous cards you have already selected you just know they not going to synergise

Here you go guys...... cause I care. ;)

Trump's Arena Tier List: Neutral Commons
Trump's Arena Tier List: Neutral Rares

Don't think that those two lists will automatically make you into an arena master tho. Use them as guidelines and attempt to have a good curve. Also stay away from Hunter class in Arena. Hunter relies a lot on it's synergy of cards to be strong and you can't be sure you'll have the right cards.

Thanks Toxin, I actually thought it was something Trump created, since I watch most of his streams and heard totalbiscut mention it before. will definitely have a look at this

Deck lists help you evaluate value of single cards... the problem with Arena is that you might see a card that is pretty darn good somewhere in the beginning of the draft, but it's useless without a combo. Let's say you play paladin, and you pick up Equality early. All that's needed to make it a good combo now, is Consecration or Avenging Wrath... but they never come.

Guess what I'm trying to say is that value lists have their own value (excuse the pun), but at the end of the day, you still need to build a coherent, slightly combo-y deck using random cards. It's not easy. I look at guys like Trump, picking the same cards I pick and constantly doing arena runs with 6-10 wins. I can't seem to break three.

*sigh*

Still hopelessly addicted to Arena though...

Learn the game, learn all the decks, cards & combo's & think ahead. IE if you do this, what might happen next turn. Take your time!

I also totally agree with what have been said above. It's great to know what cards you can assign high values to, but its also important to let your deck combo and to know what type of deck you just built. IE control or aggro.
Play with that in mind.

Sure Arena, still has an RNG factor but if you know the game and cards this factor becomes smaller and smaller. I am definitely not the luckiest person around. I've been playing since quite early in the closed beta and have opened tons of books, but only have 1 legendary and hardly ever get one in Arena, but it is still better imo than playing constructed and constantly running into ppl who have clearly bought tons of books & legendaries.

My arena runs are usually around 5-8 but I do get some sh%#ty luck now and then with less.

Watch youtube vids or streams like http://www.youtube.com/user/TrumpSC/videos & http://www.youtube.com/user/CaravelGaming/videos

GL guys and let us know how the runs go!

LoL.. Trump is ok, i've watched some of the other guys playing Rank level 1-2, that gets intense, they have some weird decks going there

The Arena is definitely the most Interesting asset to the game... It really is incredibly strategic, those links were awesome thanks @Toxin!

Im ashamed to admit that a lot of the "terrible" Cards Iv used as regulars "whistling:

why is it that the matchmaking in Arena seems so badly skewed. i win far more games on casual and RANKED, as opposed to Arena. but surely if it was matching in the same manner then the win/loss ratio should be similiar ?

I feel the same, Im sure the match ups in Arena is different, i think its completely random in arena because the cards are random... Makes more sense to me...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Arena is completely random. Never saw anyone claiming otherwise.

Not suppose to be. The higher wins you get you are suppose to play against ppl with similar amount of wins.

But as is with these kind of games the game itself have a certain % of skill, rng & luck. Some ppl just seem to have far more luck than others!
