Help: Call of Duty 4 PC restarts.

It sounds like your PSU is at fault.

I agree with Azimuth... What power supply are you running because when installing a new GFX card you have to take into consideration the amount of power hungry resources your card is going to use...

I am using a Vantec ion2+ 620w.

have you tried reinstalling cod4. Did you reinstalled windows. Also try getting the latest drivers at www.guru3d.com they are the best works great for me and I'm running a Geforce GTX280 with the latest drivers. to monitor you temp use the latest gpu-z.

if you can load that app and give us the temps for gpu and also the memory. maybe the memory is overheating.

Yep. I have re-installed Cod 4. and the same also happens with Modern Warfare 2. Last night I played Modern Warfare 2 with everything on Max except the res.

I played Borderlands for an hour and a half with everything in full and works fine. Also Played Street Figther IV on Max for about +-40minutes in the weekend and worked fine. I will install gpu-z tonight.

Ok try deleting your game profile. I had a problem yesterday where my cod4 just quit right after it shows the game logo. deleted my profile and recopied it from another pc and it worked fine.

I started with new profile and the same occurs. I installed GPU-Z. How would I know if my GPU temperature is too hot? The sensors are on, and if their is a crash it should write to the log file?

Here a screenshot of current temperature:

Howly mother of shit. thats hot for a gpu. install rivatuner or msi afterburner and put your fan speed on 100%. just be sure to let it apply settings on startup. I'm using msi afterburner

If you don't like the noise then there is no hope for you.

Also check the continue refreshing this screen while gpu-z is in background. while gpu-z is running play cod4 until it kick you out. Then go to gpu-z and click on everything and select it to read maximum temp.

Send us a pic then so that I can see what the temps are while playing cod4

Also that's on power saving and already 58C I got a GTX280 and it's idle on power saving at 40C

I think I am going to take the PSU back to the store. or maybe take my PC and try another PSU. Both the PSU and GPU are new in my PC. Maybe one of the two is faulty.

don't return the psu. just try what I said and see if that works. That vantec 620w will be enough

I don't think they are faulty. make sure you got a well Ventilated case and that it is not cramped in a corner. maybe you can send us a pic of your pc setup.

Also make sue that one of the harddrives isn't to close to the gpu.

I have tried this. Its definitely a heating problem. I turned the fan speed to 100% and the game worked for about 3 hours before my PC restarted. I managed to finish Modern Warfare 2 Last night :D

I will try get you some Pics. I don't have a good cam at the moment. I have a 6680. Will have to use that.

The drives are a bit close to the GPU. I have 3 drives in my case.

Wow that's good to hear. If you can, try to make the drives external that you only use for data storage.

Any cam will be good enough.

From GPUZ I wouldn't have guessed an overheating problem, 55C on a idle GFX card is normal, 90C-95C under load is also normal, these things run really hot.

BUT, if pushing the fan speed up to 100% delayed the reboot, it probably is overheating. If it overheats so easily though, send it back on warranty.

Definately a good idea to invest in 3rd party cooling.
I can post some pics of my rig if you like ,
i have a zalman cpu cooler , heat sinks on my ram modules with cooling fans ontop of them , arctic cooling fans on my ati radeon 4870x2 and all my hard drives are in vantec cooling bays. have fun modding your rig :)

Please view this topic to find out what I've done to fix my issue with my card overheating. you can do that as well with your gtx275.
