Help me remember a game

This one's from my childhood. Played it around the same time as Strike Commander. So it might have been Win95, but could also have been Win3.

It's an action RPG. You have a top-down view of your hero. You start out on an island that has some kind of ruined village (It's very brown). There are bugs there that you walk up to and punch. At some point, you find a portal and it takes you to another world that's green. The other side of the portal is in some kind of town.

As you explore the world you encounter more enemies. You get better items, but at some point you mutate. You start turning into a giant bug that looks like a praying mantis. There are 2 or more stages of this mutation. Each time you get stronger and sacrifice more of your humanity. You can't use weapons/armour anymore but your claws become your main weapons.

Somewhere on the Western side of the game world there is a castle (or maybe an elaborate hive) with more of these praying mantis creatures. There's also a king/queen praying mantis.

I think one of the items you can find and consume is nectar, or maybe it's called honey.

I tried searching for various combinations of words from the above but can't find anything :(

I'm actually looking for a RPG too... you start out in front of a temple and you're a black dude and a another black dude is standing outside
you explore the temple and inside are monster's... After you exit the temple you talk to the black dude and eventually kill him... After that you're in a camp site and there's A LONG bridge over a canyon ( I might add it's a desert) it's pretty vague I know but that's all I remember

That sounds like Fallout 2, where you start out in Arroyo. You also don't have to be a black dude, you also don't encounter a black guy at the end of the temple it's a guy called Cameron, you can talk him out of it too.

Flip I need help remembering a game too. I have trawled the internet for years looking for it. It was a 3rd person Medieval era game on PC and you explored a completely ruined and over grown castle. I think it came out around 2001/02. I remember the graphics were incredible for its time especially the water effects.

I think you had a choice of 3 different characters : a typical knight and a female archer, cant remember the other, its all very vague though.

No other info. unfortunately. literally sat with it for 15 mins at a friends house.

I'm totally guessing now, but Diablo 1? It pretty much fits the brief.

Not Diablo, the view was from straight behind the character and Gothic actually looks close but Im familiar with Gothic so i know it wasn't that.
Thanks for suggestions though! I've even asked my friend who had the game and he doesn't know what Im talking about hahaha!

Just read through the thread, brings back old memories! At first I though you were looking for Ultima, what an epic game that was!

Sorry for the thread necro but I found the game after 10 flippin years of wondering what it was. I found it on sale at GOG.com!

Insane, actually cant believe it. Graphics look great for its time too.

I remember looking at that game when Chronicles of Riddick came out, and I was wondering what else the studio has made, I believe they mentioned it in the developer commentary.
