Just had a system crash while importing video from a mem card:(. All the footage is no longer on the pc and the the mem card is asking for a format.
Anyone know of some good card recoverey software? I see there is quite a lot out there but I want to get it right first time and not make anything worse.

Try this
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/

Always remember when recovering anything, save it to a different physical drive. Don't do anything that would write to the drive you're recovering from.

Hope the video isn't corrupted.

Your best bet bud is to send it to the guys at Intratec, we are the guys in charge of the Durban branch and they are usually pretty successful.

Speak to Lizelle they are in Cape Town - Montague Gardens - 021 551 0470

Get quotes before you send it to data recovery people though. They can be really expensive and there's still no guarantee they can get your data back, although they can work wonders.

Yeah 100% Correct Matt, Intratec do an assessment then give you a price, no quote rejection fee or anything like that. And with them expect a starting price of around R1800-R2800 but during this time of the year they have specials going on usually.

There's a lot of paid software out there that can work for you, but for a freebie, try Hiren's Boot CD. Download the iso, burn it to a CD, and boot off it. I'm not 100% sure it can do memory cards off readers or not, but it is worth a shot...

Hi guys, sent the card off to Intratec. Quote came back at R2800.00 to recover. I said go ahead with it because the footage was pretty much priceless, massive sentimental value. Anyway they were unsuccessfull, it was an electro mechanical failure.

The card was only about 6 months old. Lexar Class10 32GB

damn.

did you still have to pay them?

Nah they have a very strict No recovery no charge policy.

Sad to hear that Brad, i send jobs down to them from Durbs on a daily basis. It is seldom that they cant retrieve data from drives.

Soz for the loss of the data man, in my business i know how much it sucks.

I know hind sight is always 20/20 but someone gave me good advice once. He does wedding photography, or at least did. He told me he never uses the large capacity memory cards as the risk is greater that you might loose everything. He uses several small 4Gb cards. So if one does die, he still has the others.

Might not work for HD footage though, depending on size of course.

Sad to hear you lost everything....
