Hidden Gems in South Africa

I hate going to to the usual Touristy spots for Vacation. It is so much better exploring new places that not many people have been or even know about. So for our 4th anniversary, I took my wife to Hogsback. And absolutely amazing place! There is this magic aura that surrounds this place. Went through some pretty interesting small town in the way there such as Alica, Fort Beaufort and Aliwaal North.

My dream is to one day go road tripping through South Africa with the wife and kids and find all these hidden gems.

One of my favourite places is Mountain Sanctuary Park in Magaliesburg. The Volcanic rock formations are beautiful but for me the best parts are the river gorges. It's great to go climbing up the gorge and diving into the crystal clear pools.

Living in the Eastern Cape, I really wouldn't have put Hogsback down as a "hidden gem". [MENTION=16362]Flex[/MENTION] come back for Christmas in July, thats when it snows there and it looks insane...like 8k 120fps

wow that also looks amazing!! That is not even so far from Gauteng. Hogsback was 10+ hours drive. I am struggling to upload the other Pics for some reason of the accommodation we stayed at. It was called Away with the Fairies", it has a bath on the edge of a cliff over look the whole forest. Will try again and upload the rest. Doing a trip like you mentioned is also on my bucket list. My dad bought a Ural side car to do exactly that!

Well yeah for people living in Eastern Cape it is a known place. For Gautengers not at all. And it is not that touristy yet. They predicted snow for the evening that we left Saw pics, LOOKS BEAUTIFUL! !

Iv spent every Christmas for the last 10 years in the Transkei, it is without a doubt the best part of this country... The only problem a lot of people have is the roads in and out of the places... We travel on a 60km "dirt" road, and i use the term dirt and road very loosely... The last 60km can often take well over an hour... But once you get there, its like an untouched paradise...

Wow, putting that mountain sanctuary park on my to-do list next time my parents come to visit. Looks amazing!

There's lots of gems in Mpumalanga, but I don't know of many hidden ones.

I live in the central berg. It's stunning............. out of holiday season though.
