A 16-year-old high school pupil was stabbed to death during a fight with a fellow pupil at Kgothalang High School in Bekkersdal, Randfontein, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

"It is alleged that the fight started in the classroom when the suspect threw an umbrella on the wall and its pieces ricocheted back and hit the victim," Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.

"An argument erupted leading to both scholars taking out knives and fighting."

Why were both of them carrying knives :wtf:... must be a damn rough neighbourhood

Just an observation; I'm sure in most countries there would be a huge thing about something like this, but here it happens quite regularly. I would like to be shocked by it but all I feel is "really... again?"

Can't even imagine being in a school like that. Worst we ever had were fist fights. Maybe the odd chair being thrown. But never a life/death situation.

This is becoming so frequent eventually they will have to do strip searches and have metal detectors to make sure students don't have any weapons.

yea my school had fights now and then but dam this is too much.

Whats next security in class rooms?

Let me be the 1st to say this..... lets just blame it on GTA 5.
I'm sure you can use a knife in the game to cut or stab something.

I saw a kid who was on steroids crack another kids skull when I was at school.

We were allowed to carry knifes to school. No blades longer than 5cm though. (I think...can't remember...whats the length of a standard Victorinox pocketknife?...that length)

Hell the one day a guy pulled out a proper fckin Bowie knife to help a teacher fix a power plug. (Screwdrivers being in short supply you see). I don't think anyone even noticed except the teacher & myself.

Then again...we rarely had problems anyway so the knifes were a non-issue.

WTF... go all RAMBO up in that bi#CH, it's weird that there were actually rules as to what kind of knife you could bring. We didn't have any specific rules about knives and teachers didn't mention it... I guess everyone just thought, "What you gonna do with a knife at school?"

"Well kids, back in my day we threw paper balls at one another's heads to start fights... Now (flying debris caused by umbrellas hitting walls) instigate these fights, leading to sharp weapons being drawn - and ultimately the sad conclusion."

Jokes asides; whatthehell's a scholar doing walking around with a knife in their pocket? Rough neighbourhood? School premises unsafe?

Had a stabbing at my school back in the day but that was with a scissors. Other than that, typical school fight. worst it got was a dude whipping out his hockey stick.

Parents gotta beat their kids man. You have to be more scared of your parents whooping your ass than some dude at school. That healthy fear served me well when I had any "trouble" (far and few in between). Then again this type of thing happens outside of schools in townships all the time. this case is highlighted cos it was in school but it's alot more prevalent than people think.

WTF?! Seriously stupid....raging hormones, and on steroids. How does a kid even afford steroids? Surely their parents aren't getting it for them.

I have no idea. I know he sold the stuff as well to other kids. He had a gun as well. He ended up in jail in the end.
