A few hours ago Rob Bowling at Infinity Ward let this piece of news out on Twitter after being asked about dedicated servers and modding tools (thanks to Lamonte for the tip):

@CprlRst Nothing on Dedicated Servers, but there may be some Mod Tools news coming in the future, I'll pass it along once I have it.

Well I guess they are right.... IW has to now Woo their PC Gamers back if they want to continue whats been going on of late.... and giving us the facilities of Dedi servers would be the best thing ever... I think that would calm people down alot and with regards to Modding toolz I know someone here that loves modding in COD

modding is cool and all that.
but please guys, COD4 was made popular because of pc gamers.
still to this very second,millions are playing it instead of MW2.
because on the pc version, it's really terrible.
i personally hate the match-making system,which might be all fine for console.
but for pc owners it just doesn't cut it.
it's the worst R500 i've ever spent in my whole life, I actually gave the game away today lolz

otherwise the SP is pretty great, i'll give them that
 
Knowing them it will be some half-hearted effort to please the ever dwindling PC community, not to mention loads of bugs and limitations.

Please prove me wrong IW...

That's absolutely not true at all. While the original Call of Duty was a big PC title, all subsequent iterations have been enormously successful on console. Call of Duty 4 is still in the top 5 most played games on Live now.

When I talk about PC gamers pulling the whining victim and betrayal card, this is exactly the sort of attitude I'm referring to - the PC fanboys have absolutely no consideration whatsoever for a title's success outside of their exclusive platform context. If a title is successful on PC, then it's automatically a PC success and all other platforms be damned, and the developer had better remember that the game was only a success because PC gamers bought it.

I can't find the most recent sales statistics by platform, but Wikipedia cites a January 2008 total sales figure of 7 million, with an Xbox figure of just over 3 million the previous month. That's approaching half the total sales already, and it doesn't include PS3 statistics. Looks to me like Call of Duty sold more on console than on PC.

While console multiplayer lacks (to some extent, anyway) the community aspect involved with mods and whatnot, the game was and still is very much a big feature of the console gaming landscape. PC gamers aren't the only people who play, love, and support it.
 
I am a PC Gamer, but Azi does have a point. If I remember correctly 14% of Cod4 sales where PC. The rest where console.
