Hooking your PS3 up to any LCD monitor - A dummy guide

How is the texture tearing with games like MGS2, Uncharted 2, Red Dead Redemption‎ and Heavy Rain?

I have a 1m cable. Its a bit short. I think I am going to get another.

Quick question: I use the same monitor for my PS3 and my PC. Is there a way I can change between both using some device? I don't want too continuously disconnect my PC and hook up PS3 cable and vice versa.

I didn't really notice much tearing with Uncharted 2 which I just finished, although Heavy Rain I have noticed a bit of tearing but nothing to really worry me.

Kyubi, I am not sure what monitor you have but on mine there is a source button which changes the input from Digital to Analog.

I have both my PS3 and PC plugged in and use the source switch to change between the 2, easy. :)

Some of the Samsung models have issues with multiple sources
I use a P2350 and it won't accept the analog signal even when switched over manually via the soft menu.
The more expensive P2350Pro has a remote that selects sources though and that works fine

Yeah thats exactly what I'm trying, its a no go on this monitor, although I didn't try with a console connected to analog, used an external TV Tuner last night and it wouldn't switch

That is strange, that would drive me nuts. I have my xbox and pc on the one monitor and PS3 and pc on the 2nd, both work fine when manually switching over.

Thanks. I guess i will fiddle a bit tonight :)

cool, give it a whirl, should work 100's.

Trust me it's already driving me insane
I'll test on my second monitor tonight though, might just be a faulty input on this one

Ok heres my turn to ask a question :)

Bought 2 new monitors, both have HDMI ports, so I was wondering if I should replace my DVI - HDMI cable with a HDMI cable.

Do you think I would notice any difference? I mean the picture quality is pretty fantastic as it is, I mean what is even the point of HDMI?

What monitors are they? Cause I stumbled across something interesting when I connected my PS3 to my Samsung 2494HS via an HDMI cable....... the sound was playing through the built in speakers in the monitor! I was like: "Sweet! Shame about the crappy speakers tho". Then I noticed the monitor had a sound in- and a sound output pluggie. I pluged in my Logitech Z2300 speakers into the output and hey presto! Proper sound while gaming and all it cost me was an HDMI cable.

Best bit is that it works just as well for my Xbox. :)

I got 2 Samsung B2430H's and yeah I also got a sound in on the back, how does it work? Looks like a headphone jack right?

Problem I would have is that I share my logitech speaker setup with my PS3 and the Xbox and just swap the cables over depending on what console I am playing.

I do the same thing. Just unplug the HDMI cable out of my PS3, then plug it into my Xbox and vice versa.

As to how it works you just connect your HDMI cable between your minitor and the console you want to play with and then plug your speakers into the sound output headphone jack. I'll take some pics tonight to show it more clearly.

Ah ok I get what you mean.

got my P2450h on Saturday. 24inches of awesomeness. HDMI to HDMI cable was all I needed to start things up. Finally my PS3 is being done justice.

/checks clock to see if its 17.00 yet.

I attempted to connect both my PS3 and PC to my monitor this weekend only to release my Monitor cable is HDMI on boths sides :p so I need a HDMI to VGA for the PC and HDMI for the PS3.

Any ideas where can I get me one of these?

I found one on wantitall but they seem to be expensive

lol yeah you need HDMI one end and DVI or VGA other end. :p

Don't ever buy of want it all, they are the biggest rip off.

Most gaming shops should sell them, I don't know where you based but I bought mine from a Chinese shop in Northgate shopping center called Ending man, think I paid R150 or something like that.
