How do I limit a user's bandwidth?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to changing router settings.

Here's the situation: I play online games and my mom streams series/movies, we have a 10meg line from Vox. But when my mom is streaming I lag horribly and I'm pinning it on my router not being able to share bandwidth properly (layman's assumption), so I want to limit the bandwidth she receives - or at least prioritize my pc's bandwidth for gaming so that I do not lag. I am on a cable from the modem and she connects via the wifi.

I have heard that setting up QoS is probably the best way to limit her bandwidth but I have the D-Link DSL2750U modem and people have been saying that it is impossible to set QoS up even though it has the functionality. So I want to know if this is true or has someone been able to setup QoS on a DSL2750U? If it is impossible, then what modem/routers are there that I could buy that will enable me to limit her bandwidth? Or are there any other options?

Thanks!

Yeah get net limiter and set it for half of your line. On your moms pc and yours ofc. Just make sure that it run on startup.

You won't be able to resolve it entirely, but yes limiting her connection might help. But you should also be able to set up qos too... Not sure why you say you can't?

Else download the series instead of streaming it

Then u have the whole 10mbs to urself. Or an easier option would be to limited the streaming quality to 720p. I am able to stream and play comfortably with streaming at 720p and play online games.

Yes, QoS works on the DSL2750U if you understand what QoS actually does and how QoS works. Most people make the wrong assumptions about QoS and then claim it doesn't work.

Yes, however you'll need to be a hell of a lot more specific as the options are virtually endless
Or are there any other options?
Definitely, see previous answer.

Try Netlimiter.

Also, please don't spam posts in multiple threads.

Thanks. I will try this.

While I was searching the net for solutions to setting up the QoS on my router I came across a few threads where people claimed it was impossible...they even phoned the d-link support and those people couldn't set it up

Have you personally set up QoS on the DSL 2750U? If so, would you mind helping me?

What do you want me to elaborate on? As I send I'm new to changing router settings.

Thanks
