How many LoL players are there in South Africa?

I play LoL as well, the only problem is because I use iburst I tend to play during the late hours of the night or during weekend.

More than you think

I was just wondering. I only bumped into 1 other player, so I guess there couldn't be too many?

Hey man.I think well over a 1000 people.
Well 500+ on a site but im more than that.

There's an SA community site for LOL.Which nag also helps them out a bit.Check it out, you'll find both US and EU players there.
They also have some mumble servers available.

I play LoL not as much as I used to, got too much going on at the moment. It's a awesome game, dont know about HoN but prefer it to DoTA2, well after playing a bit of the beta.

The fact is its down to opinion. Only when you spend the same amount of time on all of them (and it should be at least 2 months) can you give a true opinion.

There are some obvious differences. The major factor being that LOL is a more casual based or friendly game. In that I mean (and LOL & DOTA pro's agree on this) is that Dota is a harder or more skill based game as there are allot more little/meta things that influence the outcome. I.e. neutrals, neutral pulling, denying etc plays a massive part.

When you start from scratch it’s just simply harder to get to a decent level in Dota. I reckon that is what keeps allot of ppl away from it.... try it, get your ass handed to you and give up...

Looking at the competitions and things of Dota 2 while it’s still in beta I must say things are looking amazing. Almost can't remember a week that has gone buy without at least 1 sizable tournament going on and the fact that last year there was the $1 mil International and its happening again this year does give it a nice boost.

I haven’t been following LOL for some time now so I can't speak about it in that regard.

*ps sorry for the derailment of the thread

Holy freaking badman, A LOT.

What I don't understand is why is it whenever someone mentions a moba/dota style game does it always break down into a discussion of why this one or that is better than the other.

I used to play a decent amount of LoL on EU but since I got my DOTA2 key that's generally what I play now, you could say that it has taken up my alloted gaming time. However, I do still hop on and play a LoL game every now and then, you can add me (Lantre) if you are interested.

Cant compare the 2 sorry. For all its similarities there are many more differences. Ive spent quite some time playing LoL and ive played a bit of the Dota 2 Beta but with regards to comparing its like comparing BF and COD. Everyone does it but its pointless and really cant be compared.

LoL at the moment does seem to have the bigger following and more money being thrown at it World Wide but Dota 2 is still in Beta phase so it could catch up quite quickly in that regard.

But with regards to the thread comment there are a lot of SA players. Unfortunately many of them dont know about the local players or competitive scene.

there are tons, but i reckon most are just casual like me, since BF3 came out, my alloted gaming time is 85% BF3, 10% LOL and 5% SC2 and my GF barely gives me the time i have now so this ain't gonna change anytime soon :(

@fridgevr: I agree, at the end of the day it comes down to different strokes for folks etc. but, I seriously doubt more money is being thrown at LOL. The international was massive, and as SnowWar said, another international is coming up. havent seen a LOL comp with anywhere near that amount, maybe 50k max to winning team.

I dont know much about LOL and have tried it once or twice, but its certainly not for me. DOTA gets me pumping though.
Still waiting on a DOTA 2 beta key..siiiiiiigh :(

What are you comparing, dota2 and LoL? If that's the case I can comfortably say more money is channeled into the LoL competitive scene than DOTA2, mostly because Riot use this as their advertising and hence directly fund almost all the compos. Valve on the other hand don't so this and let the competitive scene be a little bit more organic and self sustaining. Also DOTA2 is still beta, so ya there's that.

Once the Chinese scene starts going over to DOTA2 from DOTA things will start to change.

So valve pumps more than a million into DOTA 2, as the beta is released. That is quite impressive. Maybe LOL does push a bit more funds, but they need to because of DOTA 2. Streams are getting 20K+ viewers, LOL doesnt generate anywhere near that. Check gosugamers, all you see is DOTA 2 and SC 2 with an odd HON or LOL in there.

That will only happen once the game is released. No one likes to play a game full of bugs and like half the hero's.
Does anyone have any idea when DOTA 2 will be released btw?

Dude you should do some research 1st. The other day was Intel Extreme Masters World Championship with 50K going to winning team. Final had 200k spectators. The best players get 20k watching their streams everynight. The Season 2 finals hosted by Riot has a total Prize Pool of $2 million. There is millions of active players. So currently as it stands LoL is far ahead.

And Valve throwing a $1 million prize into its 1st tourney when the game launches in beta is a bit over the top tbh.

PS. Im watching a stream right now of Dyrus talking shit with his TSM mates and it has 13k viewers.

Cool guys! Thank you, great to find more lol players as I play about 80%+ LoL"whistling:
Dota 2 looked cool...but kinda forgot about it and doubt if I'll buy a game if I can play one for free. Tried HoN, didn't like it. No specific reasons:wtf:
