How to become a pro racing driver

How do you advance from playing simulation racing games like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport into a pro racing driver. I do know that there is a GT Academy staged once a year but problem is you have to have a PS3, a GT5 game and have online capabilities. Does anyone know other ways on how to become a pro racing driver?

Not if he means that he wants to become a professional racing driver in video games...

Unless he honestly thinks he can become one in real life after playing games? :wtf:

I dunno, this thread hurts my head, call me when someone can explain :p

It was a mistake but its noted for the future. Snoek i have practiced for 6 years and i'm quite sure i have perfected the art of racing. How to Step up to a realistic level is what i want to know.

If you have perfected the art of racing, why would you need advice from those who do not have the self-same claim?

If you want to become a pro racer IRL... please refer to Glordit's reply for more information.

All i want to know is where to start, that is if you know, if not then its fine.

Do you have a drivers license?
Have you ever gone go carting?
Have you ever been on a real racing track?
Do you live near a racing tack?
Have you even driven a real car before?

We're going to need to know a lot more about you to be able to guide you in the right direction.

Well first thing I noticed going through the list of drivers out there in big motor sports championships is that their all european, so you first step is a european birth certificate.

Then most of them started racing at around 13 on karting tracks, your not 13 are you, if not you best get started since they spent nearly 5 years out there karting. By the time any of them started in cars they already had plenty of experience in racing, not many of them mention PS experience.

Then after all that you best start would be with the golf race series here in SA but you would also need nearly R2mil just to get your car ready for the 2014 season, if they even let you in with no racing credentials to your name.

However racing from a PS3 controller and real life is very different, these guys can spend an entire week learning a new track because there is no reset button for when they get it wrong. If you were to start now just with practice in karting and proper race cars, then the first time you hit the grid should be at least 3-5 years away if you spent every day practising. There is a reason these guys start in there early teens, by the time you get to 18, you just won't learn the same skills as you could as a kid, by the time you get into a car these things should be 2nd nature and no game will ever get you there, in fact your 6 years of racing behind a controller will most likely be the biggest reason for your failure as racing driver.

I played Surgeon Simulator the other day. I think it has adequately prepared me for life in the medical field.

@ OP - if you're serious, contact MSA (Motorsport South Africa)....and forget everything you think video games have taught you.

Dude everything you learnt playing video games will get you a black flag in your first race, trust me
