How to build a powerful next-gen gaming PC for under R11,000

Very interesting to see how relatively cheaply we can still get many components in South Africa, despite the weak rand.

When it comes to new CPUs and graphics cards, though...

I bet an AMD build would cost less, or perform better at the same price "whistling:

What? An AMD FX-8370 or FX-9590 with DDR3-2133 (because they don't support DDR3-2400) will actually work out more expensive (if I did my calculation correctly) and not really offer much better performance than the posted build.

Think it has to be mentioned that this is only the tower. No screen or peripherals.
But it is quite impressive what you can buy on a budget indeed

Hehe, took the bait did ya :p. A lot of people seem to think this build isn't all that "powerful", but I'm of the opinion that it's got plenty of power. I actually like it. Buuut, FX-8370 vs i3? :wtf: As wack as AMD CPUs tend to be, they can't be ignored when it comes to the "budget" build, and while this isn't necessarily a budget build, you kinda get the sense that you can do much better than an i3,even if it's a good i3. An FX-8350 is priced pretty close to the i3, not necessarily a better CPU but the extra muscle would come in handy every once in a while. And the RX would also be a better option in this case for those hoping to keep up with newer titles given it's DX12 performance, the card really should be less and probably will be given time. As for RAM, I have no idea how price relates to frequency or how a particular frequency affects gaming performance, but I'm not sure anybody putting a build like this together would care much about stuff like that. I know nothing so I may be completely wrong.

In terms of raw single-core performance the flagship AMD FX-8350 is lagging behind intel's processor line-up by over two generations. The PassMark Single Thread scores for the i5-2500K vs the FX-8350 are 1863 to 1520 which shows that in terms of raw per-core processing the FX-8350 is lagging the ancient i5.

overall, especially at current prices, the 9590 doesn't represent good value for money.

And just to summarize :

- i3 Skylake is faster then the currently available flagship AMD CPU
- i3 Skylake is cheaper than the currently available flagship AMD CPU
- i3 Skylake uses 25% of the power the currently available flagship AMD CPU uses
- i3 Skylake supports DDR4 RAM

What does count in the AMD's favor is that is is an 8-Core CPU where the Intel is a 2-core with HT. What makes is disgusting (in my opinion) is that a dual core budget Intel CPU keeps up with the "flagship AMD CPU"

I know AMD is coming up with a nice new CPU that will be releasing "soon" and I would love to get my hands on it for research purposes I really don't see the point in using an AMD CPU for any real world uses.
