HP Wireless Mouse Issues

I bought an HP Wireless Mouse a few months ago. It's been working fine until about two weeks ago where the pointer would start moving erratically. When the mouse is stationary the pointer moves around in almost circular-like motions. From time to time the mouse would work accurately, but most times the pointer struggles to just move from one side of the screen to the other.

Seems many people have had similar problems - I've tried some suggestions like replacing the battery, removing and re-inserting the usb receiver and putting the receiver into a different usb port but none of these have helped.

The usb receiver is tiny and has no lights or buttons on it.

This is becoming really frustrating. Anyone know what I could do to fix this?

EDIT: Just realised that this should be in the stickied thread. Sorry :o

Ummm it could be one of the three problems :

1.
The surface on which the mouse operates is too rough for the mouse or it's dirty.
2.
The sensor is dirty.
3.
Outdated drivers.

Try the mouse on different surfaces, clean the sensor, and update drivers.

The usb receiver automatically installs the driver when inserted so I don't think that's the problem.

What's a sensor and how do I clean it?

Just check for new firmware updates on the HP site. The sensor is the little shiny red light at the bottom of your mouse, see if there is any dirt or hair lodged in there.

Ok, try turning the pointer speed down and see if that helps. Wireless optical mice are very sensitive, especially on a smooth surface. What mouse pad do you use? And have you made any re-arrangements to/or around the PC?
