HTC Wildfire/Android Rooting & Flashing

Hi everyone,

I am interested in making my HTC Wildfire run faster. Angry birds lags WAY too much :p

So what does anyone know about rooting and flashing. Is it the way to go for making it run faster?

Essentially, I just want to reformat&reinstall like I do with windows every year to keep it running in tip top condition, but I am open to any thoughts. Typing on my Wildfire has become a mission because it lags so much :/

Thanks all :)

first of all you have to have v2.1, I'll have the rest of the info for you in a moment

Cool. thanks. will look at it all tomorrow after my Physics exam. Is it possible to do this all without loosing all my apps and stuff? also, will I still be able to get HTC widgets? so far they have the nicest clocks that I have found. and I do love my widgets :D

You know what? screw it, i don't even want to keep all my apps, I'll just download new ones when I need them, like the old times. I'll just backup my photos and videos and such on my pc and start completely afresh :P

Also, I have the newest OTA update. 2.2.1

well sorry to burst your bubble, 2.2 can't be rooted :(

You can backup and restore your apps with Titanium Backup, nothing happens to the stuff on your memory card, always good to back that up anyway.
Those HTC apps are sense based (so they need a sense rom to work), CM7 for example doesn't have sense, but DK does

2.2 can now be rooted with the new unrevoked :D I will continue reading little by little. will let you know how it went tomorrow night when i've done it. At the moment, just backing up SD card while I study

Well good luck then :)

Balls! Can't do it. Revolutionary doesn't support my hboot and Unrevoked also doesn't like it... You were probably right. Can't do it from 2.2.1. meh... I won't give up though!

Easiest way...

www.youtube.com > "HTC wildfire root with odin"

Thats how i learnt to root my samsung galaxy :P

Just care MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE U DO ANYTHING!!! (Think titanium is the program)

just a heads up - the wildfire is lacking a bit in hardware.. no amount of rooting/flashing will make angry birds run smooth :P

:P I know.... but a man can dream can't he?

but when it started lagging during normal message typing, I knew something had to be done...

Thanks, I have however found a method that may well be promising. If it works, I will let you all know what links to follow... Waiting for a "Gold Card" image to be sent to my email :/ I know... I shouldn't be giving away my email online but whatever. I am getting desperate to do this now.

I have since, done a full factory reset and formated my SD card. running like the day I got it. But that isn't good enough for me :P I want it to be better.

Success! Will tell you all about it tomorrow. I'm too tired now :)

I am dissapointed by how UGLY the DK Custom Froyo is... and can't say I'm too impressed with the speed either. May well go ahead and install CyanogenMod soon. Will give this one a chance first. Will paste up instructions for anyone with a Wildfire that got updated on how to get it rooted tomorrow :)

well, DKmod is doing me fine. I will try out CryanoGen when I get back from a short study break on friday.

Here are the instructions I followed. Shamefully, I can't find out who wrote them originally as I downloaded them in a suspect zip file.

hi, today i will be showing you how to root the HTC wildfire on android OS 2.2.1 froyo, and Hboot version 1.02 (1.01.0002)

to check what hboot version you have, turn off the device, when rebooting hold the power and volume down button together.

this will be a 3 or 4 part tutorial.

if you have hboot version 1.01.0001 skip to the downgrade video. if you have hboot 1.01.0002 like I had follow all the videos.

*make sure for all of the steps in all of the videos USB debugging is enabled*

in this part I will be showing you how to downgrade your hboot version to 1.01.0001 (this part is crutial!)
you will need:
*a micro sd card (the one in your phone will do)
(not all micro sd cards will work, but the majority do)

first download the buzz downgrader (link will be in links.txt)

2.create a new folder on your desktop called buzz downgrader

3.extract all the files from buzzdowngrader.zip into your new folder

4.when all files are in the folder run adb.exe (phone does not need to be connected)

5.put your micro sd card in your phone

6.run step1.bat as an administrator, wait for completion

7. then run gold card tool.exe as an administrator (phone will need to be mounted as disk drive/mass storage)

8. click on the "get CID" button and let it complete, a code will then appear.

9.you will also find your CID in the debug log at the bottom of the tool,

10.copy the reversing CID from the debug log, DO NOT COPY THE NORMAL CID OR IT WILL NOT WORK!

11. click on the gold card gen link in the tool, it will be in blue.

12. a webpage will appear asking for your email, give correct email, this is where they will send your .img file.

13. paste the reversing CID that you coppied earlier into the SD card serial box on the webpage.

14. on the select your goldcard, select android

15.click generate goldcard, an email will arrive as soon as possible, download the attached .img file to a place you will remember e.g your desktop

16. back on the goldcard tool click load goldcard.img, select the .img file you downloaded earlier from your email

17. if your phones micro SD card does not show up here...
click refresh. (phone must be on disk drive or mass storage for this to work)

18. now press patch MMC, if there are any errors try again, if there is still an error then your micro SD card is not compatible!

19. now get out of the goldcard tool and put phone back to *charge only*

20. now run step2.bat as an administrator, if you get an error goldcard is not correctly done.

21. that should be step 1 complete, to check succession, power off phone and power on by holding power button and volume down button together. If your Hboot version is 1.01.0001 then congrats you have success, if not try again.

for next steps to gaining a full and permanent root go to part 2

in this part I will show you how to gain the s-off, the default htc is s-on, blocking the rooting process.

1. put your phone into your pc, and *charge only* with *usb debugging* enabled

2. download "revolutionary" link will be in link.txt file

3. on the webpage after download fill in all the details on the page, your model is obviously htc wildfire, and your hboot is 1.01.0001 and your phones serial , the serial number can be found when you launch the revolutionary tool

4. launch revolutionary.exe, if you have entered all your data correctly on the page it will have given you a key, type that key into the revolutionary tool when asked for it

5. wait for the tool to complete, at one point it will ask you a yes or no question, type the letter "y" when asked.

6. wait for the tool to complete its process, it will reboot your phone a few times.

7. boot into hboot by turning phone off, reboot phone by holding the power button and the volume down button together.

8. if you see the word revolutionary highlited in pink then you have been succesful, if not try the process again.

next part:
downgrading the ROM to allow a full and permanent root

Got Cryanogen working on my phone and it is wonderful. I'll be sticking with it for the forseeable future. Will miss HTC Sense, but with all the customisable options, I am already used to this as much as I was used to sense. Will mostly miss my Clock feature in HTC Sense. It was far quicker than this and more functional but anyway. I'm happy :)
