Based on the interest in the thread, I've decided to update this post with current members requesting titles that adhere to the still-to-be-ratified requirements of 2 years' membership and 1000 posts:

OP:

So, how does one go about getting a custom title around here? On my forum-home-away-from-home we have a tradition that as soon as someone hits 1000 posts the community votes for the member's title. After getting enough responses, a poll is drawn up and the community then makes the final decision. Point being, the member in question is not allowed to intervene with the choosing of the title. Participation in discussion is welcome (and recommended) and public dismay can be shown for the horrible, degrading suggestions, but the community's vote is final.

So, thoughts?

Why should it? Why can't we embark on a custom-title choosing quest for everyone involved and make it a fun, memorable experience? It really adds to the sense of community and makes everyone involved feel special.

So the forum (should he/she/they) so desire or so wish to participate, can think of a community-based title for forum members; something more or less describing that particular member, as the community sees them? Within a criteria? Within certain borders, and making sure that the title chosen for the said member is something themselves like/don't mind having?

Bottom line: (Forum) Community "comes together" as think of a title that best describes (in a manner of speaking) a forum member who wish to have a custom title.

As I understand.

Pretty much, yes. The admins of the forum are there to make sure things are in line and above board and I believe most people on here don't have exclusively malicious intent towards others, so the final decision will probably be something the to-be-titled member will be willing to accept.

TL;DR Forum get's to choose a custom title for some one if they so please. I myself wish to keep mine.

Seems a good idea for those keen on it. All it would take is a simple thread with a poll. Anyone wanting and eligible asks for community thought up names, poll it and bam, 1 message to Admin and done.

Well, consider this the first official vote on the new official custom title thread:

Hagan - TL;DR (based on a post of yours from last year sometime - too lazy to look for it now)

As mentioned above the line, why not let people request to be titled in this thread, recommendations are made until at least 10 options are available and then a custom poll-thread can be made to gather the votes. Would drive activity on the forum a bit in those off-peak seasons (i.e. when activity competitions aren't running).

EDIT: We'll need to sort out some rules first though. Something in the line of 2-year's membership and a minimum of 1000 posts? That equates to at least 1 post a day from the member...

I know there are rules for it but it's been so long that I can't remember what the criteria was

Hmmm I like my title but I'm also interested to know what other people would change it to. It's a tough decision. It's an interesting thread you've got going here FarligOpptreden.
