"I can't game the way I used to."

41 soon and I must confess that time is much more of a factor than when I was in my early twenties. (Single, carefree and used every cent earned on fun whether games, parties or whatever) Sure you still had to pay rent and eat, but because you were single you didn't care that much. I remember pulling double shifts in the UK doing factory work and somehow still find time to party. It was good money. Didn't really care if you go stoned or half sober to work or getting fired. Used to do that for 2 weeks and then go for 2 weeks to Spain, Ireland or Amsterdam, rinse and repeat. In Sunny SA I used to go to LAN parties for a whole weekend only sleeping some on Sunday and go to work on Monday. Compare that life to today - hmmm - it is a tad different:

The evenings when coming back from work seems so short. Especially on days you go to gym. Spend some time with the wife in evening - we make turns cooking as we both work. Watch an episode or two of something. 11:00 - 11:30pm is bed time. Up again at 5:00am My aim is to get some gaming time in over the weekend. Lately there are more b-day parties and weddings than I can count - all happening over a weekend and the wife is very close to her family. Saturday evening I am trying to write a bit (Pet project) but mostly end up doing something stupid like land on Youtube and watch funnies through the night. I make time on a Sunday for sure but that is as far as it gets.

32 at the moment. Wish I had more time for games. I am lucky if I get a few hours of gaming on the weekend. Usually only about 3 - 4 hours on Friday evenings. There's just not enough time in the week to play. Leave home just after 6 in the morning. Usually only get home somewhere between 18:30 and 19:00. Then we make dinner, eat, wash dishes, wash clothes, spend time with the wife (which really dislikes my gaming... :()

Compared to my uni days where we spent weekends at a time before the pc. Miss those days...

I also cannot game like i used to, but I think it has a lot to do with the games these days. The graphics is awesome, but I lose interest quickly. When I was a kid, I made up my own stories while playing the game (grand prix circuit, F19), where I don't do that anymore. Might be because the games try and cover all aspects, so you just switch off and play the game, rather than 'interact'.

I have to agree ABCpt. Games just don't keep my interest that much anymore. Not sure if it's me or like you said the fact that we just switch off.

I'm very surprised by this thread. It looks like we are only a few people who love our gaming and actually get and make time to play.

I game more now than what I did 5 years ago. I decided a couple of years ago that I want to make time for gaming since it's something that I love doing. This year I'm hoping to finish 60 games. Last year I got to 52. I do make time for it though. Most days I try to game at least an hour if I can. Over weekends I get up early and game and often spend a lot of time gaming over weekends if there aren't other duties.

But then games interest me even more now than in the past. These days I struggle to not do everything. For instance in Arkham Knight I finished all the side quests except the Riddler trophies just because I had such a good time.

I did have to let go of other things to game more though. For instance I don't see friends, like at all anymore. I prefer my online ones. I only see family every couple of weeks and well we don't have children so that saves a lot of time. I also watch less rugby these days and I don't spend that much time browsing the internet. TV shows I only watch ones that I find truly exceptional.

So I suppose for me gaming was just something that I found important and made a big part of my life. It makes me happy. And I am happy. A lot of people can't say that.

Turning 31 in a few weeks and when I'm not working I'm usually playing games. I don't have a wife (or even gf) or kids so I have a lot of free time to do what I want. I love gaming so naturally most of my free time is spent playing games.

34 have a 1 year old, he falls asleep at 8pm usually and the wife will be up till 9 or 10. If we don't *sexytime:D we will watch a show on Netflix/Showmax. I will play whichever game Im going through if I have the energy or interest after that from 10 - 12 or so.

I find my gaming time has diminished but its no sore point at all, I find I actually love it more these days. I guess because I don't have time to mess around, its quality titles only and in small chunks, like one mission a night type of thing.

I turn 24 next Tuesday. The day Dark Souls 3 releases.

I still game 4+ hours a day. Girlfriend is an avid gamer as well, and if I'm gaming she's watching, or vice versa.

39. I game 2 to 4 hours a day (pc, ps3 droid and vr) I have 2 children (1 and 7) and also manage between 2 to 4 books a week while keeping my wife and work happy.

Agreed - That is impressive. Watch any TV Astro?

I used to watch plenty tv but now days maybe 2 hours in a week (unless I just got my grubby hands on a movie I am interested in, starwars/antman/deadpool as examples).

Currently watching Star Trek Next Generation again, Started about a month ago, Currently on S01Ep04.

How the times have changed.

I used to play quiet a bit when younger. Hell even competitively.

Now I'm married, have a kid & have multiple projects on the go.

I play at most every 3rd day for about an hour to two hours.

I wouldn't have it any other way though :D

Lol, I found my kids add an extra dimension to the game.

Try playing while your 7 year old is telling you what you are doing wrong and your 1 year old is trying to eat the remote. :D

Also turning 33 this year, married no kids, but I think I still game exactly like a used to.

I'd get really into a game and spend most of my free time playing it, sometimes even whole weekends.

Then other stuff comes up and I back off from gaming for awhile. Currently I'm kept relatively busy at work, but when I hit my stride I'd divide my free time between video gaming, board gaming, D&D, reading, and keeping in touch with family.

So nice to see you mingling with the kommoners. :p

Spent so much time in the real worls this past week I hardly gamed at all.
Fixing things, making things and cleaning things.

At least my pc is now on it's own tables and my wife and daughter now have a table they can do crafty things on.
Also started making my wife a cage for guinea pigs (frame done, have to cut and weld the wire mesh on now).

My word... what is it about turning 30 that seems to take someone from being a casual gamer to being an occasional gamer. I am turning in September and feel most of the pain been shared here.

Be it dropping kids off, getting supper sorted, getting some extra work done or having to wake up early over the weekend, there is always a seemingly valid excuse that obliterates any hope of getting your swing back. I have now become accustomed to being a one shot kill in most games, I have even developed a little twitch when left clicking (my hand jerks down and right) that I know can only be removed with practice... the horrors of real life.

Personally, I am looking forward to my midlife crisis, I am going to buy a giant red tri-sli desktop with 3 giant UHD screens, the latest in input technology and finally Battlefield 20 Ultimate Edition, I will open the relevant version of the Lockers, get one shotted by that oke who sounds like he sucked down all the helium at a 10 year olds birthday party, and then quietly throw a brick through the closest screen while screaming about the lag over my telkom 4mb adsl line. Its going to be magical.
