Ok, so... I just have to get this off my chest. I have lost the will, drive, joy and desire to keep playing Black Ops 2 online. Well, any FPS for that matter. Why? Well let me tell you why...

I am a PS3 fanboy. I migrated over from PC to console in 2010 and I've not looked back. :) I play Black Ops 2 and I'm currently Prestige Master, have diamond camo snipers and gold on a few/most of my pistols, SMG's and Assault rifles. My K/D is 1.01 (average) and my score per minute is 221,00 (not too good). I've logged 558 hours so I've spent a fair amount of time playing this game.

The above stats serve to show that my opinion of the game and the online CoD community is not based on bias (BF3 fanboy slating all other FPS') or perception created by playing just a few TDM or Domination matches and having my behind handed to me on a silver platter by master inja tweenies.

I loved playing this game. It has been an absolute joy getting home from a hard day's work, grabbing something to munch and then park off in front of my screen and playing with my clan buddies and other PSN friends. I loved the interaction, bantering, joking and all round comradery of the people I played with. I've had a great time completing the challenge of getting my snipers to diamond. The hours of frustration was worth it once you make that last kill and you see the achievement pop up that indicates you've unlocked gold on your final weapon and they are all diamond now. Then I moved on to getting to Prestige Master and that felt great.

But then something changed about 3-4 months ago. I started entering lobbies where young teens would be running their mouths and spewing forth profanities and racial slurs at anyone that dares to play better than or in some cases just picking a person and bullying them. I mean, it is one thing to cuss (in a moment of play during the match) at someone for killing you while you have been working hard on getting a 15 kill streak and you are one kill away from K9's or a Swarm. I just feel that it is totally unacceptable when you start ripping on a complete stranger in the lobby and be an all round jerk. These youngsters are disrespectful and in most cases racist towards others and especially towards female players. They just keep cussing and insulting others and it makes the gaming experience unpleasant for most in the lobby.

Then there is the issue I have with player emblems in the game. There are some real works of art and I really appreciate the time and effort some put into creating some really great pics, but then there are those that create some downright offensive ones e.g. incorporating naked bodies, private parts, profanities, racist slurs, etc. It irritates me because I don't need this in my game and it embarrasses a person when you have other people with you in the room, especially younger people, and here's a person in the lobby with an offensive emblem that pops up every time you kill them.

There's obviously the issues I have with the game e.g. lag compensation, the broken camera, balancing issues, etc. but these are basic game related issues that everyone has to deal with and that is fine. The game being buggy and having game play issues is something I can handle and you just learn to work with it but what gets to me is the community and the community is getting toxic.

A toxic community detract from the gaming experience and it just makes it unpleasant for others to play. Yes, there will be an element or minority in every game that will do these things but I have been encountering this 80% of the time in BO2 lobbies. I want to play a game that will stay true to the nature of the game and not bring in these elements that is offensive and degrading to other sexes and races. These behaviors do not belong in gaming and there must be a way of cleaning online gaming up. I'm not convinced that the reporting system in BO2 works and I don't think that this is a system that can work on such a massive community.

It has to start with the individual and we need to change. If we can get to a place where we all respect each other then I believe gaming will take off in a massive way in SA and among a wider audience.

I will not be getting CoD Ghost as I have lost the joy I've felt playing BO2. I've tried playing other FPS' and the feeling is across the board unfortunately. I might just need a nice long break from killing noobs so, for mow, I will be focusing my attention of single player games until I get my mojo back. :)

That's unfortunately the problem.

BF3 has also been getting some new blood and i couldn't help but laugh at all the hackusations, insults etc.

The other day one guy figured out how to get on the crane on Noshar, couldn't hit a thing but he was annoying.Switched to AN94 and killed him a few times,on the fourth kill the insults and hackaccusations started rolling in and just kept getting worse as the game progressed (why keep landing on the crane if you're just gonna get killed again?)

You get into this mind set that nobody will see you here and keep getting killed there but for some reason you just go back there each time.

You also see this with payday 2 that a person will take a shield on from the frond and waste all his ammo on the shield trying to shoot trough it.
I have also done this but luckly I am like wtf am I doing and stop shooting and flanking the shield and shooting him from behind.

I also wish that they would clamp down on the people with offensive emblems I had to alt f4 while my cousins where here because someone suddenly had some private parts emblem and started shouting in his mic. And they could not understand why I did that because they wanted to see me shoot bad guys.

This is exactly why i try avoid anything with ingame voip, the kiddies playing dota killed it for me :(

I've been on single player games for a while, more because I only have a little time at the moment, and I have to be able to pause often if the baby is fussing or something, but for MP, I usually play BF3 on XBox, but I don't really engage in conversation with strangers, it's best to go in a party or squad chat with a group of friends, then there's no dodgy kids that I have to deal with. If I'm playing with strangers and someone is annoying me, I just mute them...

Had the same experience in Dota and several of the COD games, I have screenshots in my Steam Library of people swearing at me... ect unfortunately this is the overall attitude of the kiddies in SA. If we don't change these attitudes competitively SA will get nowhere with gaming.

All you can do is disable VOIP or ignore them, but I know that's not always possible :)

Lately been playing CSGO again and its been good so far. No kiddies around!

This is exactly the reason why I don't feel the need to play any games online when on my Xbox. You should see the filth that hangs around lobbies in any game I've ever tried online. It's utter disgusting! I usually try to keep online gaming between people I know/trust (like friend or fellow forumites). I (accidentally) broke my headphone mic after a tirade from a spotty youth, and subsequently never felt the need to replace or fix it, as I avoid in game voip like the plaque. It's a shame really

Which is why a community like this one is so great. Here you can meet people to game with online, and nobody swears at you or calls your dear mother foul names.

^This.

Thankfully most of the kiddies move on to the newest thing with the most hype, the community of older games seem allot more mature.

Playing BF3 with SA guys is awesome, you need mates to try and help each other's mojo's out, I'm not a fan of CoD, but you should just try and game with an SA clan, make friends, invite each other over for braai's and such, and get your game on....you'll get over your "meh" feeling very soon :) good gaming

Thank gawd!! CSGO has a mute funtion to mute individual players.

OP I get the same, I played BF3 for months and months then one day just uninstalled it and never went back.

This very reason is why I avoid COD and BF3 online. I already play Dota and that community is as abrasive as it gets, I don't think I could deal with 2 games that are like that. When it comes to FPS gaming I get my fix from playing Crysis 1 online. Community is so chilled; ever since playing that again I have found that my Mom is far less promiscuous. I hack far less. And as far as I know I have been freed from slavery :D

This is so true. It is all about the interaction for me and I enjoy the game that much more when I play with friends and communicate throughout the session. Muting players and staying all "silent but violent" is not an option as this is, in my humble opinion, antisocial. :-) I will have to find a proper clan and like minded gamers to share the experience with. Thanks for the encouragement guys. You rock.

Back to the gaming :D

I know exactly what you guys mean, and I think that was a big reason I moved over from the CoD series to BF3.

There's nothing worse than a high pitched tween voice shouting over the mic when you're playing. It takes away most of the fun. At least on BF3 on PC, you only have voice chat when you select a few people who you want to chat with. I find it a lot more engaging, and I find on BF3 that people play the objective more.

Yeah, playing BF3/4 with friends is just awesome. I can't remember the last time I was in general squad/team void. I tried COD again in SnD, and it felt embarrassing to be over 14years old in there. Being double that made it worse.

Sometimes it isn't the games that are changing, but it is your likes and dislikes similar to how when you young you love certain things then when you get older you start hating it and loving other stuff.

I think Dota has got a lot better, still have the odd game with someone raging, but in general I find the community much more friendly now.

Dota is a lot better. The advent of reporting players makes it easier to weed out the problem players. Faaaar better than twilight servers

I never communicate in blops. always mute the whole lobby. Go on a wild killing spree in silence.
Abuse comes my way of course but Im expecting it and don't react in the slightest. If a guy wants to get angry while playing then fine thats his story, Im not going to share his anger with him over a flippin game.

Well done on your diamond awards by the way, you obviously own at blops2. I suggest just muting everyone and enjoy being good at your game. Make em suffer:D
