I think microsoft just won e3

Epic announcement. Totally unexpected. I've sold all my 360 games though so doesn't tempt me but the fact that they're trying so hard is really impressing me. Also just announced mod support for Xbox. Pretty amazing.

While this is great news for Xbox, I don't see how this is gonna come to PS4. I imagine the system architecture between the PS3 and PS4 is just too different to make it work. I could be very wrong though, don't have much technical knowledge. I am, however, one of the few people who don't care about backward compatibility. Sure it's an awesome feature to have, but it's not something I really need. Unlike most people I know I didn't sell my last-gen console to get the new one so I can still play any of those games at any time. I can't get myself to sell my older consoles, my X360 and PS3 are just sitting there gathering dust, but I still want to have them. I know I will regret it immediately if I sell one of them.

All my xbone friends are raving about this in my PS4 face.

But from what I have gathered not ALL xbox360 games will support backward compatibility?

As i heard all disc based games will work and then downloaded games will come in. But i might have understood that wrong.

I feel the same. My PS3 is just gathering dust everyday. Think I've turned it on once this year to play Kingdom Hearts HD.

So BC is nice to have but I'd probably never make use of it. I've got a PC to play all those older games, which also run a whole lot better than on an ageing PS3.

From the way they announced it, it sounded like all 360 games are backward compatible. The publisher/developer just has to "enable it", which I assume means release a small patch and update their license agreement to include the Xbox One (which they should all want to do since it makes for a bigger market).

You understand it wrong, only games that are marked will be backwards compatible and for some it means you will still have to download the game even if you have said disc

Digital downloads will start showing up automatically in your game library. Still need to download the game when using your Xbox 360 disks

Developers and publishers just need to approve what titles work with backwards compatibility.

In the end this is Microsoft making out to be the good guy's by passing the buck. PS3 use to be PS2 compatible till it was pulled with an update that was pushed by publishers. Lets see what happens in this space.

/me grabs his popcorn while he waits for his new Steam game to install.

Backwards compatibility is probably the biggest bomb to be dropped from MS, but also remember that Pc mods for Fallout 4 will work on the Xbone. I can assure you it will not be the last game to so.

The backwards compatibility thing is amazing. I look forward to see how it'll work. I mean I just played Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on my 360 even though I own an XBox One.

IMO Ubisoft won E3 with For Honor. There's nothing else I saw that I want more.

Erm Ubisoft.... yeah I know that name. Its the people that know how to sell hype and not deliver.... Watchdgs anyone?

My vote still goes to Fallout 4.

I get your point, but I don't agree with it. I don't care about graphic downgrades and all that other stuff. People can badmouth Ubi all they want, but the simple fact is I enjoy most of their games. I even enjoyed Watch_Dogs.

Regardless, in this case it's not about the developer but rather the game. For Honor looks like a game I have always wanted. Have you seen it yet?

From the videos i saw, Microsoft actually built an xb360 emulator that will run inside xb1. This includes all the menus/mechanics/ui that exists on xb360 (demo almost looked like a virtual xb360 as an app on top of xb1). So technically all games should work on it, eventually.

But it does explain why you'd most likely need to re-download the game, even with discs.
