Which is really bad I am capped! I saw the wireless button blinking on my Billion 400g wireless router and so I think someone may be stealing my wireless. How can I stop them? Or how can I access the computer so I can take revenge?

I know about MAC banning, but I don't knwo how to get the MAC addresses in the router. Can someone help please?

Thank you.

well, I do...and it is a really random one with numbers, letters, symbols...maybe the light was flashing for no reason and it is WPA-PSK. But it is a curiosity in case for some inexplicable reason I have to disable the encryption and then I find out that someone has been capping my internet...

Ok well this isn't very clear. Ok the light flashes, so does mine when I disable my connection, so thats not a solid indicator. Install a bandwitdth monitor and make sure more cap is being used than what the monitor says.

Next. Try setting dedicated IP adresses for the router so that only the IPs you want can access it. If you can't do it with that router, disables it's wireless alltogether, and get wireless LAN hub and use a short network cable to connect to it, than have that one use only the dedicated IPs

Log into your router and see if there is any other devices connected to it and what ip addresses they have been using.

But blinking wireless can also just mean there is activity on the wireless. Does not necessary mean there is someone else on the network.

You can log onto the router and actually show a log of all the current users and history of users on your router and prevent it from happening again by blocking their MAC Address.... :)

I don't think the light flashing is any indicator, as ours flashes randomly too as long as the wireless service is running.

As the above posters said - log in and see who is connected to your router, and block them if necessary :)

Yeah, i will. If just the light was flashing - I would have been fine, but the internet light was flashing as well, and my computer wasn't connected to the internet. Thanks all.

The Internet light will flash when there is activity on the router.... you also have to take into consideration that if there is no one hacking it could be your router losing "ghost" packets in other words what happens is it transmits and receives false packets therefore causing your Cap to be used up quite quickly...

Who says it was hacked at your access point? Someone could have hacked your actual ADSL account at your service provider. If I were you, I'd change that first and then check the general login password of your router/modem. It is SOOO easy to scan for visible routers on a service providers IP range and then simply using admin/admin or administrator/password to try and get it. Some people don't even change their modem/router's standard login password....and they are looking for trouble.

I didnt think they were still doing that lol... I havnt seen or heard of a DSL account being hacked and stolen in years

It isnt necessarily a hack. It could be your neighbour that could have visited and quickly checked your password. All he did was check your PC, go to the connection in the taskbar, go to properties and view password. Then go home and use your connection wirelessly.

Well, no one has come over, my admin password on the router is changed form the default - so I know it can't be that. I decided to rather just use a password generator, use that long password in my wireless - and change the encryption to WPA2-PSK, as my card can support that. I gues they're now having trouble getting in!

Never knew about that - my router has a firewall built in, and I have changed all my passwords from the default - except for my adsl password as I can't change that, and I don't think my account has been hacked. so wireless is now secure, with a changed password, stronger encryption - and I have adjusted the power down, so nobody on the street can get my network. I think!

Try to activate the router's firewall and use secure keys, also allow only your ip to get connected and you should be fine.

BlaQ_Phoenix its like Strategist said no one has gone over to his place... so the only things left to assume are that someone has:

1. Hacked his wifi which is possible I hacked my own (taking into account that it is secure).
2. The DSL account details have been hacked and a simple process of emailing the service provider to change the password is quick and painless.
3. The router ports are faulty and sending/receiving "ghost" packets and causing his cap to dry up quicker than normal.

Contact your isp.

Do you know how Long it took us to get our username and ppassword? 3 days after insallation! 3!! Now I do not want to deal with that again from Telkom...

Also, after changing my paasword, the blinking lights have stopped. And my router is fine now.

Out of interest, where do you see the place where you can see the password? I have looked all over the place, and the only place where I can actually see my password (as in, it's not a lot of dots) is in my router admin...

There are various WEP Key hacks out there and ja they scan the wireless channels for the keys and easily break into your router...

You should just make sure the router is set so its not visible, also change the name to something only you will now and keep the encryption up.
