ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa said his call for action against striking Lonmin workers in Marikana last year and the subsequent death of 34 mineworkers were not linked.

In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Ramaphosa said e-mails which emerged during a commission into the shooting, in which he called for "concomitant action" against the "criminal" strikers, were a separate issue.

meh...dude was quoted out of context and individual words were quoted....provide full transcript or GTFO.

From the given info I dont see Rama doing anything wrong, so I've got to wonder wtf news writers are doing reporting this.

Not a big fan of the ANC, but going after ppl like this without anything remotely solid is bulsht. News reporters deliver or GTFO regarding this issue.

Have a read of what he is reported to have emailed - don't agree with your comment.

I don't see how you can delink his email to the resulting actions.
This was a very sensitive scenario so I believe his call for action was a contributing factor to the end result.

Have you read the emails as reported? He was calling for the SAPS to deal with the criminality, which is correct.

And there had been police members who had been killed before the email was sent.
The resulting action, even if not his intended solution, was sparked from his correspondence with the SAPS. He can't backtrack out of the fact that he was involved, to say the email and shooting are independent of each other is shocking.
Stand up and say that there may have been a remote connection which was not my intention but don't backtrack out.
He asked for the SAPS to take action and it happened, not as intended but regardless though it happened and he was part of it.

No, he never corresponded with SAPS, he called for the criminality to be dealt with. Surely you are not suggesting that Cyril can have that sort of influence over SAPS?
