ID Software's new game: RAGE

Awesome, so hopefully we'll get some local servers, haven't seen much info yet. Maybe just wait till it's released.
6 Players means it will probably be Peer-Peer with no dedicated servers and obviously the co-op mode will be p2p. Hence no reason for 'local servers'.

Pretty excited about this game I hope it's tons of fun. :)

Thanks for the info MOnk, as long as there is some way to jam with friends without a massive ping. I'll be happy! I read something about the disk space for pc might be 22gigs... thats alot of high resolution textures.

I'm also very keen on the title, I'm quite a sucker for FPS games especially if made by ID Software. I've pre-ordered my copy and super excited to play this weekend. I'll post some feedback if I can pull myself away.
One thing I'm a little unsure on... it's been confirmed that Rage will use steamworks for cloud saves etc, but on their site it is also listed as a Games for Windows Live title. I just find it strange that both are being used. It crossed my mind that the steam version would use steamworks and the retail would be GFWL but reading around the interwebs, the retail version will use steamworks also. Can anyone share some light on this?

I have no idea where you see the game use GFWL. All I can see is GFW.
So to confirm no the game does not use GFWL(games for windows LIVE)

I think what you read was that if you wanted to install the game on your Xbox360 you needed 22GB of space because you had to install all 3 discs at the same time, however, afaik they have removed that requirement and you can put only the ones you need on your HDD.

The site and packaging show the Games for Windows label and NOT the Games for Windows LIVE label, GFW is just a badge to say it's compatible with windows and all that jazz. All PC copies of Rage will use Steamworks, which mean it'll act just like any other Steam game.

Seriously can't wait for this, me and a buddy both pre ordered from BT and are gonna go pick it up this weekend and go home - install - jam and see if we can unlock any co op missions and check that out ASAP.

On a flyer I got from rAge, but I was just trying to point out that 20Gb aint that much compared to the hard drive sizes of today :)
There are quite a few MMO's that exceed 20Gb easily.

saw the game is around 20GB, the hell is up with that?
Its called MegaTexture - Instead of copy-pasting the same textures all over the place, over and over, id new engine allows for "infinite" texturing. So naturally when the artists don't have limits, the games (size) grow massively.

Gamespot review:

Rage creates an engrossing world full of dazzling detail and entertaining shooter action.

The Good

Remarkable visual design
A host of charismatic characters
Enjoyable array of weapons and items
Speedy and gratifying vehicular action.

The Bad

Story isn't strong enough to make you care about the primary conflict
You must remember to save manually or risk losing significant progress.

8/10
