Forza Horizon

I know this game is now more than a year old, but I'm still head over heals in love with it! From the long open roads to the beautiful sunsets, it almost feels like I can smell the heat in the summer air.

I probably won't even look at buying an Xbox One untill the second iteration of this title is available on next gen consoles.

Entry: The Last of Us

I rarely buy a game at launch just because I get my hopes up about it just to have it shatter on the ground in a million pieces while playing it.I have had my heart broken many a times this way and I just cannot handle another disappointment. So I went online to read reviews on this game and watch some spoiler free footage and slowly but surely became excited for it. This excitement started to grow inside of me and become a mini obsession. I had to play this game. I had to have it. I had to buy it but there was one little problem, I did not have the mula to buy it. I was heart broken and down in the dumps as I used up my entertainment budget on Black Ops 2 DLC a few weeks before. As luck would have it, a site was running a competition where you can win the game and I was on that entry form like white on rice. Not expecting anything, as I seldom win anything online, I forgot about the entry. A week later I get a mail informing me that i Won. I WON!!!! Exactly 5 days and 4 hours later a big box was delivered to my door. What could be in the box I asked myself and I slowly opened it. It was the game! YEY! ...but wait... what is this? A figurine of Joel and Ellie!!!!!!!!! Oh my freakin hat!!

I fired the game up and started playing... I played for 8 hours straight that day. I was captivated by the characters, the music, environments and most of all the subtle nuances of each of the characters. The story progression was flawless, the acting was superb and the dialogue was brilliant. Each voice was tailor made for each character and you started caring for each of them, villain and good guy alike e.g. little Ellie would make random comments as you walk through the wasteland and there was this one section where she tried to whistle. Then, she got it right and was so chuffed with herself for getting it right. I felt really protective over this bundle of pixels that was placed in my care. I would take extra care not to place her in harms way and it was a great touch the way you had to help her get over the obstacles. Joel's character progression was also beautiful to behold as he had to deal with certain losses in his life and how Ellie inadvertently "healed" him emotionally.

I has been 2 months, 6 days and 7 hours since I finished the game and I can still hear her whistling and talking to herself. I still expect a Clicker whenever I walk into the house and the lights are out. I still open stranger's kitchen cupboards to check for supplies and shanks. I will be replaying this game this week again just to checkup on Ellie. Me winning this game and having it impact me in a way no other game has ever done restored my faith in new releases and might jut one day get a game on launch... just maybe. :)

Entry : Matosha

it all started when my mates vodacom pay as you go had a Flaw of never running out of that last 15c airtime. Which gave us always online 3G data. We thusly got into trackmania. Personally i have raced for than 25000 races. This game had me addicted and dedicated more so when the ESWC came to SA.

All my hours of practice scored me 3rd place at ESWC on stage at emperors palace. It was an amazing experience. Cold sweat at 2000+ people watch your every turn. Bumping curbs and the crowds reaction to tiny mistakes... Best heart rushing thing ever. To this day i still every now and then login to TMN and set some records. Angering the so called Kings of what ever server we race on... just because that 0.001 of a second is considered cheating or track jumping... Its amazing.

MINECRAFT

First-off, Let me try to recollect and share my most memorable experience... 'twas the year 2010/2010 methinks.

My first “real” minecraft experience was in a frozen winter world, covered with ice and snow. I’d played the game enough to understand the basics, and liked my spawn point in this one enough to call it home.

Before I’d really established any kind of shelter, I came across an open cave directly below a sheet of ice, and decided to explore. It led all the way down to magnificent lakes of lava near the bedrock. But I got so lost on the way down that it was impossible to find my way back.

I was stuck underground...

Carrying precious materials I’d gathered over the course of a few hours, and dangerously low on health and torches before I discovered a huge vertical shaft that just seemed to go up forever – so, I slowly and painstakingly scaled it, making a staircase of cobblestone as I went. Eventually, though, I hit a ceiling.

I figured I had to be pretty close to the surface, so I decided to punch through it – only to come up under the ocean floor (Holy shit!). Feeling brave and lost, I swam up.

Right away, I knew I’d made a mistake. It was pitch dark underwater where I emerged, and I couldn’t even find the tiny hole I’d punched for myself to get back into the cave. So, I swam up. Only to knock my head against a huge sheet of ice. I desperately tried to smash through, but it was no use.

I drowned.

/the end.

Needless to say, the sheer immense scope of this game - not to mention the immersion this game pulls off despite it's retro-aesthetic is the perfect formula for online/virtual escapism :p

You make your own story, and the sky is the limit - literally.

As a result, this game boasts unlimited replayability and is truly timeless, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets inducted into all gaming-related top 10 lists due to this. Even more impressive is that it was developed by an independent indie studio.

Thanks to this game I messed up my circadian rhythm and became a creature of the night.. wore the same set of clothes for a week at a time and washed every 2 days (sies! lol). And neglected my poor dog scooby :(

Was it worth it? Well, absolutely.

Would I do it again? Nope! My ma sal my bliksem! :p

Entry: Star Wars Tiny Death Star (Iphone/Android)

I just browsed the app store and just saw the first 2 words "star wars" and instantly started downloading the game without knowing the mechanics of it (HUUUUUUUUGGGGEEE Star Wars Fan :D) While downloading I read that its some tower game and I was like bleh...
The first time I opened it was the longest time I've had a game open in one go... guess... 3hrs? 4hrs? Nope, a whopping 6.5 hrs!!!
I instantly got sucked into the role of manager, helping darth vader build his so called "death star" with a twist of generating insane amounts of cash buying, reselling and growing my tower to over 20 floors currently... and growing :) I got glued to the pixelated graphics, memorable star wars tunes and the great variety of species that visited my tower. After no time I was taking visitors to various floors through the elevator, then quickly ordering new stock, managing my workers then jumping to catching some rebel spy trying to infiltrate my masterpiece of a tower while expansions were currently underway in the background. In the end I never imagined myself playing such type of a game on my phone let alone my pc. Its endless hours of FUN :D thats non stop always throwing new curveballs at you (a pun, lol) and managing your resources (like the Pirelli tyres :wtf:) which runs about pretty quick when your a noob at the game (thankfully Im not one anymore). Sorry got to go, need to expand my 21st story and fire that God Damn slow martian worker )

The elder scrolls: Skyrim

With a Voice wielding power of the ancient Nord art. Believe, believe, the Dragonborn comes.
Dragonborn, legend of the nords, praised by the sons of Skyrim, a hero who holds the power to slay dragons.
Do you have what it takes to become that legend?

Step into beautiful fantasy sandbox known as Skyrim. The harsh environment, filled with unforgiving locals, has no vacancy for timid adventurers. Create your character, choose your play style, then fight, sneak or swindle your way through the story. Offering complete freedom to do what you want, however you want it. Even, with certain mods, do whoever you want.

Filled with abundance of side quest, radiant activities, and the support of a community of modders, Skyrim brings unlimited gameplay time. I would even say that the advertising on steam "Live another life, in another world" is spot on.

Tired of questing? Why not get married, settle down, and build your own cottage?
Beware though, dragons that can swoop down at any time.
This is, after all, Nord country.

Entry: Borderlands 2

So it all start one day jamming call of duty and just getting my ass kicked! Decided to go through the collection of games I had, covered in spider webs caused by Call of duty! Went through the games like; " No, Maybe, No, Maybe later, Wait whats this?" Got my hands on Borderlands 2 that I had got as a gift and forgot about it! The day that game installed onto my PC was the day I became a man (hahaha)!
From the start to the finish of that game I sat up playing it like a Dog watching a cat waiting for something to happen! That game pulled me in like nothing before. It took me less than a day to complete and when I was done I finished it again and then co-op'ed it with my brother and then bought DLC's and then my wife nearly left me. So I had to give it up but there will always be a part of my life that was dedicated to Borderlands 2! If I could say anything about this games is that it is life changing! If I was not married I would still be playing it, leveling up and finding new gear, killing super bosses and trying to run away from a midget chasing you with a axe!

Second Life

I played this game a few years ago and was sucked in to a virtual world that was kinda like a real world, but just really weird and crazy.

I tried it again yesterday and it's still as zany and strangely addictive.

The concepts is in the title 'Second Life'. You choose an avatar and then basically do whatever the hell you want. I must have spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to choose a 'shape' for my avatar, and when that is done, you can choose a skin, clothes, accessories, animations etc. You can literally fill up your inventory with tens of thousands of items ranging from purple furry suits, to gangster attire, to guns, glasses, hairstyles, and yes even attachable penises if you so desire.

That's just the tip of the iceberg though. You visit 'destinations' on a massive map and can take part in events. Fancy listening to some live music? Head to a club which has a musician playing. A real life musician playing live and streaming through the game using his/her avatar. There's some real talent. People set up shops, hold classes, tutorials, build homes, and even make real money through the game.

It is such an inane concept but you can literally spend hours just visiting and exploring random locations in the destination guide.

SuperHot

Why would you not want to play the game that broke steam's record for fastest greenlit game ever (5 days) ? If you like portal, or any other puzzle games, even fps gamers will enjoy this, you must try out the demo and buy it when it is released to help support the indie games out there. From level one you will be sucked into this game as you fascinate over the new laws of physics that they have set down, and absolutely determined to make every bullet hit...

Having spent hours re-doing all the levels over and over again, I am still not at all bored of it, and trust me i have NO patience for rubbish time wasting games.

In a world where time moves only when you move, logic is no longer an option. "Kill them all"

ARMA 3 - In general

Yes ARMA 3 is the game and real warfare is it's aim. I always feel guilty when I stop playing this game, always thinking I could approach a mission / Objective completely different with better results everytime. "Were you so glued to it that it caused sleep deprivation and emotional trauma?" If having a dream about a mission during my sleep then i would consider a Hell Yeah!

There have been a couple of times playing by myself or with a friend that mission either go with great success or WMD (Weapons of mass destruction) scale failure.

One time playing Wasteland with a friend Spyder Pig (Useless abilities in the bush :) ) , the mission was to capture a helicopter that had run out of fuel. Knowing that all players on the server would make this mission a high priority, we decide to hit the heli ASAP.

Unfortunately the town in which we have come to call home, was not the most well kit town of all. With just 1 Fire Arm, the Vermin SBR using .45 ACP cartridge rounds. Now some may know, this is a close quarter weapon, not something you want to be running in the open with.So we took this single weapon onto our objective. Once we arrived, it was apparent that the position in which to capture the objective was very un secure, with many heigh sites coming from North, East and West this objective was no easy task.Nearing to night time and with no NV scopes.

There was no way to kill all the AI and refuel the Heli (Bare in mind our home town had no fuel tanks laying around) before any other players rock up. So the decision was made to rather try to ambush any players trying for the same objective. Sypder Pig obeyed the order to go to the tree located 150m away from the heli and take the Vermin SBR with him, while I remained at the vantage point located 800m up the hill. As we waited the Sunset soon changed to complete darkness.

Oh we waited while smelling the wonderful cold air come down from above. Then all a sudden while I'm lying prone, 3 gilla suit members apear from the West ( where I am located) , I lay very still as 2 of them walk down the hill towards Sypder pig and one remains just infront of my corpse.

Sypder Radio's in:- "2 targets have taken out the AI."
Archie Radio :- "Do you have a clear shot?"
Sypder Radio's :- "Yes, clear as day light."
Archie Radio :- "Take the shot on 3, out."

At that moment I am counting to 3,at the end of the barrel is the head of a player who would have not execpted a douped body will end his life. Sure as hell when my mind goes 3, 3 shots are heard within the area.

Sypder Radio's in:- "Targets down!"

What an awsum moment it was, we managed to stop 3 well kit units with simple tactics and weaponery. Steal their Fuel and Repairs kits, while at the same time boobie trapping their body with remaining sachel charges that was found in their bags.

It was truely the most epic moment for me in arma. Sure there are tones of experiences like such, have to be well excuted and rarely does it go as planned. Most the time it happens by luck but when its sucessful you cannot stop talking about like you are an Vietnam war vetran.
