In Reference to the fish at Walmart: And later all the fish died of shock, true story.

Really?

They usually don't have a very long 'shelf' life to begin with because of the way they are put on display. The ones sold there are all males so they have to be kept in tanks of their own because males literally kill eachother, most petshops are cheap so they are kept in small containers which in itself is cruel.

I would only buy mine from private breeders.

Betta's are fairly tough though, good at adapting to changes in temperature and able to breath out of water thanks to a special organ.

Saw this on Reddit a while ago, obviously take this all with a pinch of salt since its the Internet. But anyway a claimed breeder said the shock of the new water probably killed them.

And they get delivered in little sealed packets about the size of those jars.

Probably a temperature drop then.
Looking at the pic it seems he used bottled water, might have been bought from a nearby store that kept it in a fridge.

It is a product that wallmart sells - supposedly dechlorinated water specially for siamese fighters. From what I have read, there are conflicting stories about it. If it is true that the fish all died, it would have been either ph shock, or the fact that the cup he used might not have been as clean as they suspected.
