Dunno if deflector shields would stop beam tech. In Ep 5 Solo attached the Falcon to the tower of a star destroyer without first disabling the shields, although that could have been due to the astroid field....

So Shields are essentially useless in Star Trek? anyway I was just pointing out they had shields, whether they work against specific weapons is another story.
