Impossible for next-gen consoles to beat PC: Crytek

Of course Crytek are going to bash consoles, their games are little more than playable tech demos that make the majority of their profits from PC users.

And considering that this certainly isn't the first time they've hopped on the platform war bandwagon, I'm taking this clearly biased opinion with more than a little pinch of salt.

This is the same as the Bungie keyboard-bashing; stirring the controversy pot to get their respective titles to the top of the headlines.. And it worked! I wasn't aware of that Bungie game before I read about them not liking good controls.

I take issue with that statement and it's one that I see so many people make, it makes me wonder if anyone that says this ever actually played a Crysis title.

Crysis 1 was a fantastic game, read "GAME"; you could play it and up until the snow levels was helluva good fun. Crysis 2 was okay, if somewhat constricting and overly easy.

I've got to agree.. Neither game blew me away for the gameplay, but I've played a lot worse before.. Crysis especially, like you said, was lots of fun until the alien ship confused the hell out of me. I did finish it, however, and the same can't be said of MW3 or Max Payne 3, for instance. The second one was too closed off, and really emphasised the linearity of the game, just a tad too much for my taste.

I guess the gameplay gets looked over because of the jawdropping, computer killing nature of the engines the Crytek guys deliver, and lets face it, that's what they're aiming at.. But the gameplay holds up, especially when you consider the Medal of Duty sequel franchises that the competition consists of.

I've played and finished both. The first wasn't too bad and felt like it was on the verge of breaking new ground for the genre, but the second just felt like it was cashing in on those who would buy it just to look at something pretty.

Personally I prefer FPS titles like Dishonored that worry about gameplay before graphics. And considering Far Cry 3 was such a sexy looking game that still had some solid ideas backing it, in comparison the Crysis games just come across as little more than eye-candy to me.

Different strokes, I guess.

Obviously PC hardware is superior compared to a console. But who buys a console for it's hardware specs? You buy it for the awesome exclusives.

Ironically, the second one sucked because it had to be changed for consoles, which couldn't handle wide open areas and the like on the Crytek engine.

This. If Crytek didn't have to cater for console gamers then it would have been A lot better. And BTW! IMO they should have made the Crysis series Pc exclusive. Not a lot of Pc exclusives these days... D:

Crytek have never been good at making games. They're brilliant at making engines and tech demos. Whether or not they also cater for the console market will not fix their lack of vision and skill when it comes to actually making a game.

That's quite funny. Now go play Crysis then come back and say that again. :p

I don't care if the next console is worse than the current top end Pc's out there, I just want a console that's more up to date than the current xbox 360/Ps3. I really don't get this PC vs console bashing, I use both, I enjoy both. We all enjoy playing games here, stop caring so much about, "the way I play games is better than the way you play games".

Sure, the hardware in a PC will be superior, but what's the point? Big majority of games these days are designed for console. PC is an afterthought and the sort of resources that would require high-end hardware are in the form of exclusive PCupdates for fan made mods. Can't have your cake and eat it too :/
