Infinity Ward confirms third person gameplay

We reported a rumor regarding the possibility of third person gameplay in Infinity Ward’s upcoming shooter Modern Warfare 2 less than an hour ago. The main supporting elements at that time consisted of supposed leaked in game video and a screen capture of what appeared to be a game mode selection screen.

In addition to the above, we’d like to now add a promotional email from G4TV’s X-Play to the mix, and ultimately a confirmation from Infinity Ward community manager, Robert Bowling, that seals the deal.

A recent PR email sent to Ripten from G4TV teasing Modern Warfare 2 Exclusives on X-Play, the promotional copy promises a look at MW2 “never before seen Co-op play from two wildly different perspectives”. And just when it looked like G4TV was going to be on the hook for spilling the beans, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert Bowling, came to the rescue by confirming the game’s third person mode outright.

According to Bowling, Modern Warfare 2 will in fact contain a third person mode available in private matches only. “It’s not something you can toggle on and off in ANY game,” Once initiated, it will force that view on all players in that private match until the next match. He added that this will be “another cool way to play the game,” and that you will “still have the option to play gametypes normal as well.”

so they keep slapping on useless additions in the hope to placate us? nice plan, but the execution needs a little work.
 
For a “super special cool feature” it’s kind of a letdown but the good part about it is that it’s something that you can toggle on and off and not something that’s forced on to you. Hmm and also the fact that it’s all the players in the match that gets affected still leaves much to be desired.
 
Its a rather boring feature if you ask me. If i want to play a 3rd person game id play a 3RD PERSON GAME not a fraking FPS <<<< FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. When i feel like 3rd person ill call up Azimuth and book a session of Gears. Not play bloody COD in 3rd person. I love how they are shamelessly raping a franchise they been building up for years. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Borderlands anyone?

So true!

There is just 1 thing i truly do not understand, why did they bother to change the essence of the game. There were nothing wrong with cod4, all they had to do was give us more maps and new guns. Physics and that stuff is nice and all but the best thing about cod4 was the gameplay.
 
The only thing I have to say to this feature is: "But why? Seriously."

OF22 pretty much covered my thoughts around this.
 
Thats just wrong.. Pfff.. really I'm so over MW2. I also agree with OF22. Glad there are alternatives to spend my money on.
 
Hahaha.. So much for realism. I never intended to buy MW2, but I've certainly had some laughs about their "game improving" decisions.
3rd person gameplay often fails one way or the other in my opinion. Either it's badly implemented and even if it isn't, it certainly doesn't fit a game like MW2.
 
I totally agree with the rest of you. This is not exactly what I was expecting when they talked about a great new game changing feature.
 
its sad really ... why change a winning formula. If they stuck to MW in its current state they would have sold truckloads anyways. I'm so sick of this whole ordeal. like OF22 said, borderlands anyone?

they should try this out on some other crappy game not this...
 
I heard they taking out prone and jump. And also they going to use tennis balls instead of grenades because their market research showed it would be better than actual grenades.... :p
