Input on first Gaming PC

Hi Guys

I'm new to this forum so I hope this is in the right section. I am looking to buy my first gaming PC, and found this. I would be taking the Asrock mobo, so the price is more like 8K. The PSU is made by the same people who do Seasonics PSU's so I can only hope its okay.

I would be playing in 1080p, medium to high settings mostly. My budget is around R8000. Is there anything better around atm? Any advice/builds would be welcome.

I can only comment on Asrock - I have one and am pretty happy with it. I do believe it is part of Asus. For the graphics - I suppose it depends on what you will be playing. The GeForce GTX 590 pretty much plays all my games in HD. The GTX 650 Ti was good bang for buck but had some quirks. So I guess the 750 ti will be decent enough.

Personally, I prefer building my own computer from parts I order. I bought a Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H mobo a few years back and I am sure there are newer tech out there, but to me it is important that I have a solid motherboard in case I need to upgrade. 64-bit OS for 8GB of RAM and a solid state hard drive for the OS helps.

The CPU IMO is a bit weak - I have an i5-4460 and it seems to do the job just fine.

So my advice would be to use what I have as a basic guideline and perhaps get something newer (tech wise) than I have and if it takes a little longer to save for - it might just be worth it.

Ps.: I am not much into hardware - you might get better advice from someone else.

Don't plan for today, plan for what you might be playing a year from now. We always think we want to play the games from the past 2 years or so, but when those new shiny games are released we regret not getting something a little stronger...
 
Rather not get a pre-build system. You are paying R 8000 for a Pentium G and a R1400 motherboard, which is only good if you plan to buy a new CPU in the next six months. This is not to say the the Pentium is a bad CPU, it's just that what you want to pay vs. what you are getting does not look too good.

You could get a: Core i3, 8Gb's RAM and GTX 750ti along with a PSU, MOBO, Case and HDD for about R 6800~. Which is a much better deal than R 8000 for something you could put together for about R 5000. I would also recommend a AMD build with a FX-6300 as opposed to the i3, that would also be about R 6800~.

Do note that these prices exclude any peripherals, screen as well as OS.

Agree with lots already said. What kind of games will you be wanting to play?
And try stay away from pre built PC, unless you are utterly useless or don't know anyone that can help you build a PC. You will get away quite a bit cheaper by building it yourself! Goodluck and keep us updated!

I have been looking at a i3 build actually, as I heard that the Pentium struggles a bit where you need 4 cores, and the i3's Hyperthreading helps a bit with that. What would be better a i3 or a fx 6300/6350? Also thought of going for a R7 260x instead of the 750 ti as its cheaper, so I can spend more on the CPU, and there is not much of a performance difference.
 
I would also like some advice on building your own budget gaming PC. My son plays League of Legends and Call of Duty (not sure which ones). I searched on the web and found the following suggestions:

I see most suppliers also list items such as fans and heatsinks etc. Do I also need to buy those or is it build into the PSU/chassis/GPU?
Will this H81 motherboard be able to accommodate future upgrade in equipment?
Should I rather buy GTX 750 Ti?

We are not hardware specialists and I would really appreciate advice. I don't want to buy components that are not compatible with each other or find that there is a lot of 'hidden' items still to be bought. He has a screen, mouse and keyboard. He plays on Medium settings.

There is about a 5% difference between the R7 260X and the GTX 750ti, which is wholly dependant on the games. Try to get a R7 265 if you are going the AMD route.

As for the FX6300/Core i3 it is going to be about the same, personally I would go with the i3.

Thanks for the advice. I put a build together on Rebeltech, but decided to add a i5 instead of an i3 for the physical 4 cores. Im worried that dual core gaming on the i3 wont last much longer, so the i5 might be more future proof.

It looks good, I just would prefer buying the cpu from a known source. I can always buy the i5 now from Rebeltech and upgrade the gpu in a few months?

The guy has built up a decent reputation and I've just ordered a CPU from him, waiting for it to arrive. It's your preference in the end :)

Very nice. You can always change the Gfx at a later stage when newer games are unplayable. Sell and buy game on Carbonite.
The main difference with the better CPU is the Average FPS tends to be more consistent.
 
With that budget I will look on carb for the best deals. At that budget going for that build you will end up kicking yourself. Guy called PotterH can get you an OEM I7 4790 for R2750 Think the I5 4590 is R1800 . That opens up R 1000 for you to spend on something else.

PSu i would really try and avoid buying 2nd hand but Ram is no problem . You need to get to a 960GTX as much as I need to get out of the office .

OEM = No packaging only silver sleeve and no HSF. But a good HSF for an on K would be around the R300- R400 mark.

Ram is super solid and you will get it half price. 8 GB 1600Mhz micron ram went for R600 today. I know " 2nd hand " is not ideal but if you want a to paly a game lag free id still suggest this as an option.
