AMD brings out heir new ammo against Intel, only to fall on its face again, as Intel brings out the new Extreme CPU's. for all the Extreme users out there.

In a presentation to partners Intel showed that the top of the range Sandy Bridge-E processor, the Core i7-3960X, which uses the LGA2011 socket is, on average, 47% faster than the previous generations flagship processor, the Core i7-990X.

Intel attributes this performance difference to the quad-channel DDR3 Integrated Memory Controller in the i7-3960X as well as the new AVX instruction which boosts math-heavy workloads like HD encoding. The Core i7-3960X is a six core processor that can handle 12 simultaneous threads. It has 15MB L3 cache and a clock speed of 3.3GHz. Turbo Boost pushes this up to 3.9GHz.

I wonder how this measures up to the i7 2600k though?

Don't know if it will do to badly but it wont be worth the upgrade for me unless it is alot better with games and gives me 47% better frames. I don't think it will do that. It's some nice tech though.

Yeah, looks pretty sweet, but the i7 2600k will last me for quite a while I think. As you said, not worth it now. Maybe in 2013 :D

haha. By that time there will be the super volt 16 and a half core superdupper intelvidia (cause by that time they will have merged the companies) GTX790 Dual slab monster GPU CPU. For a fraction of the price. lol
