Intel vs AMD: Haswell changes our recommendations

Not gonna agree with the "High End Gaming"

You can go with a FX8350 + MSI 990FXA GD65 for R3852.
Nothing wrong with the board, clocks well, has lotsa bells and whistles and its actually good looking as well.
I have a Asus Crosshair V Formula Z and a MSI 990FXA GD65 and although the Asus does clock 200Mhz higher and comes with more pci e lanes I really can't find fault with the msi considering its half the price of the Asus board.

Yea that shifts the recommendation quite a lot - you're looking at an 75% premium for the equivalent top end 4770k. Of course the 4770 thrashes the 8350 blind but 75% better? I doubt it.

But you have the benefit of not recommending stuff like this for people who visit the front page! A R1000 gulf is enough, IMO, to show that Intel's getting really brave with their local pricing schemes.

"Lack of USB 3.0" - there's my fault :-P

The benefit of the Extreme 9 is that it also gives you front-panel USB 3.0 ports in any chassis with an open 3.5" slot and up to four total. Some people just never got rid of their CM Stackers or their first-gen Cosmos cases, so they'd have to do a whole convoluted setup with a PCI-E card and a 3.5" adapter and untidy looks.

I am not to bothered about the USB3, all my pc's are linked, I have 4mb uncapped and unshaped and a microserver for backing up :P
I still think its a fantastic board for the price though. As far as Haswell goes, its crap, I've now built a few machines with haswell, poor overclocking performance compared to Sandy and I dare say Ivy, huge heat issues and yes its a problem, People are not happy seeing their temps sitting over 70c after a few hours of gaming xD
