Intel's new memory technology could change desktop storage as we know it

Great tech & definitely the future...but I predict that this will be entirely useless initially.

Early Optane products will likely be small, lightning-fast storage and cache drives, if development models are anything to go by.

The current paradigm is 100% built on two distinct categories: 1) Fast RAM, 2) Slow storage

This is in the middle and manages to fulfil exactly none of the roles. Jack of all trades & master of none. Until a unified model arrives it'll be useless. Use as a cache drive? Please...you can get better performance for half the price with DRAM. Use as a high speed storage? Not big enough to compete with SSD. Sure it's faster but when is the last time you heard about a game being SSD speed constrained???
