Internet Issues

Hey Guys,

I am just curious. Have Telkom been having internet issues in certain areas?

I stay in East London in Nahoon Valley and for the last few months I have been having internet crashes. They mostly occur late in the evening, especially on a weekend night. Last night my net stopped working at about 6 and is still not working now at 7am. It is definitely a line problem as changing ISP account in router does not solve the problem.

I am just curious if this is a problem due to maintenance or am I possibly sitting with a fault?

It is really annoying having this just about EVERY time I want to join my mates online. It is really strange as it works fine during the week.

Thanks!

My Telkak line has also been dropping this whole weekend, im assuming its in connecting with the line upgrades that are taking place

I'd recommend phoning them, ask them to do a line check and see if they can possibly reset the line; otherwise log a fault. When I had clients with line problems, this would more often than not help rectify the problem.
Also, when phoning use the 'Call-back' option, it saves you a lot of grief and they tend to actually phone you back.

Sound like a exchange problem or a line problem, I am leaning on exchange as you stated it crashes in the evening and late at night. When everyone is Downloading and playing games.

Nailed it

Seems like load on the exchange

Cranky and Glordit is right, think it is your exchange which does not leave you with much option as they do not have to upgrade your exchange. I had the same problem until the rerouted the traffic in our exchange after complaining everyday for 5 months. So good luck for the journey ahead but log a fault with them.

What speed are you at ?

Id recommend halving it.

IF you are on 4mb .. drop it to 2MB just to test. Some times the exchange does not allow you to sync if its over loaded with high speed lines.

My mate in Bryanston can some times only sync at 1mb with his line that runs 10MB fine during the day.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies. My landlady and I share a 1mb uncapped line. So that's the first problem. It is in her name and she has to fight with them. She says she did log a fault. It worked fine for a whole 24 hours and then went down again last night. I'm aware of the planned upgrades but it shouldn't be effecting us like this.

When it does work, it works beautiful. As in no lag with a 30 ping in Battlefield.

I will ask her to contact Hellkom and tell them we suspect an exchange problem.
If she cannot get it sorted then I'm jusy going to have to cancel our agreement and get my own adsl line. I do have a phone line in my place but we agreed that two people sharing internet is cheaper than one. Because this is now grating my t*ts..!! Everytime I want to use it the most, it crashes!! Like now, 5am and I can't sleep. No interent!!

I will let you guys know when we get to the bottom of it, IF we get to the bottom of it.

Arnt the lione upgrades only happening around September this year?

My Telkom line is also shitty, i get a ping of over 1000ms on international.

My area (Edenvale) has constant issues. The lines are frequently down or "buggy" and dropped lines are the norm.

in PMB since the power outages on Saturday/Monday my internet seems to timeout once in a while yet my adsl stats are perfect and router stays connected.

But when it first came back on had to restart router twice since it wouldn't sync or would lose it so thinking it is the router.

Telkom gave me some issues at the start of the month as well.

My Cell C 3G modem gave a more reliable connection than my ADSL.

Well currently ive had issues with telkom, my internet connection keeps going off at around 7-8 PM and we have complained about this but they do nothing. :(
