Hi guys.

Wondering if someone might help.

The company I work for is a global company and all IT services is basically run from Sweden, our servers, VoIP, etc is managed from Sweden. Our internet traffic is also routed through there.

The problem, besides it being very slow at times, is that everything is Swedish... most sites load the Swedish site.

Is there a way that I can sort of tell Firefox / IE to load the US or international page?

Oh and yes, some sites you can choose the region and change it to intl or US. But since I dont speak the launguage, its kinds hard to always find it.

I just want to tell Firefox to use the intl or US version of the site.

Maybe if you use local DNS servers?
 
The problem is that your internet connection actually breaks out in Sweden and therefor, technically, your region is Sweden.

Using local DNS servers will actually make your browsing even slower, because now your internet breaks out in Sweden, comes back to do a DNS query in SA, sends the query back to Sweden, and then loads your page. So technically your going to add another 400ms +/- to the response on your web browsing, so don't do that :).

You are also technically already using a proxy, so you won't be able to do much about this. Unless the network admins in Sweden override your source IP, the only option you have is to set your homepage to www.google.co.za.

Centralized breakout is what it is, can't really re-invent the wheel with this one.
 
hey, forgot to mention I already using a proxy.

Thanks anyway... worked for a French company a few years ago, same setup, on French.
 
Just for web browsing purposes, you can try hola.org
It's a simple plugin for chrome that makes you look like you are from a selected country.

For system wide configuration, you could try use google's OpenDNS: 8.8.8.8 alt: 8.8.4.4

Anyway, dont want to mess around too much. Got my tablet for normal browsing.

Yup, they wouldn't want you to do that because centralized internet breakout is there for a reason. Traffic accounting being one of the main reasons. Using a proxy probably won't sit well with them anyway :D. Guess that's one of the suckies of working for an international company.
