Introduce yourself here...

Hey! Longtime reader of MyGaming and MyBB, new forum member, and am enjoying the engagement. I live in Cape Town, and lecture computer law (among other things), been a nintendo fanboy since i got my first (actual) NES in the late 80s (still got it, still works), but don't hate me for it, i still like to keep an open mind console-wise? Most games i play these days are action RPGs and strategy on the PC.

Welcome. Welcome. Computer Law, just curious, but what would that involve?

Welcome. Welcome. Computer Law, just curious, but what would that involve?

It involves a couple of things, but you can break it into two over-arching categories, namely:

1. Laws which regulate computers and the internet in general

Not a lot of laws which directly apply, but there is some stuff on cybercrime, bandwidth, licensing, etc. Generally it's either administrative or commercial in nature.

2. Research into how the use of computers and the internet affect the law

Basically, how do we adapt legally to modern technology, i.e. jurisdiction for internet conduct, electronic contracting, digitised evidence, software piracy, privacy, etc.

That's it, in a nutshell.

Interesting. Very interesting. Can imagine that would be quite intense. I'm in the product development and technical side of commercial insurance. We are all starting to look at the cyber crime scourge. One because some of our clients are looking for protection and two due to the uprising in crime, hacking, etc. So I can imagine that the sort of things you might be covering.

I do look at that somewhat, but most of my personal research is on regulation of the internet as a marketplace.

Hi Guys.

Recently made the move back to PC from Xbox. Built my first rig in about 8 years and loving it.

Mostly play BF4 and see you guys have a server, will definitely pop in once the repairs to my man cave are done.

Taking a while to adjust to keyboard and mouse after 7 years of controller and aim assist. But getting there slowly.

Catch you on the 'field.
