iPad 3 available in South Africa: price comparison

Anyone here got the iPad?
I heard over the weekend that people are complaining about the Heat of the Tablet.

I was thinking to get me Wife one but if this is the case I would rather get her Android Tablet. (luving mine)

I think it's great the apple keeps the new Ipad prices the same as the Ipad 2 range. Good competition for Samsung and other tablet manufacturers and keeps driving their prices down

LMAO those prices xD Slightly better screen resolution and 4G...

Oh and a awesome heater for you're hands...

lol

We've got one at home with a leather cover. No heat issues so far.

Good Gravy!!! R6413 (£524) for the 16GB Wifi Model  I could buy a 16gb 3G + Wifi one and still have £24 left over.

Apple Store here sells the 16gb Wife one for £399 or R4890. O.o

EDIT: Tell you what Send me R5500 and Ill buy you one and ship it back to SA for you :p

Erm... the screen res of the iPad 2 is 1024x768. The new one is running a res of 2048x1536. That's a lot more than "slightly" better.

It should be noted that these are imported versions which aren't distributed by the official Apple distro (Core) in SA. So they're effectively imported by these sites in their own capacity, which is why they are slapping a nice profit margin on it.

Here all the stores with the exception of Amazon, sells the ipad at the same price of £399 for the 16gb wife model.

Yeah, but all of those are from the official distribution channels, so they have to stick to the RRP or below in order to be competitive.

We've currently got pricing disparity over here due to the fact that it hasn't been officially released yet.

Comparing the iPad2's 16gb wifi pricing on Amazon (£314.99 = R3841.40) vs the local pricing of R3999, it's not all that far off.

So when the new iPad finally gets an official release, I'm sure the pricing will be in line.

Don't iPads have some form of region restriction? Meaning that if you import one certain online features won't be available due to the fact that the iPad is not in use in the region it was bought in?

I recall someone saying something along those lines, but it might have been another tablet and not the iPad.

Yeah just a pity that 2048x1536 means nothing on such a tiny ass screen lol
The local pricing is fucking crazy...lol I am still laughing xD

Not really, just look at the iPhone 4, the pixel density makes for a bloody crisp looking display. I imagine the same will be true for this new iPad.

Yes I know..It is a awesome piece of tech..but seriously...that price...is daft..beyond daft.

My Boss is a pretty hardcore amateur photographer and he is raving about the image quality of the new ipad. But most apple displays are awesome. Even the 1,440-by-900-pixel LED-backlit 15" screen in my MBP which isn't true HD looks bloody amazing.

My brother sold his ipad 2 64Gb + 3G for R4800 to get the new one. Seems crazy now

Yeah no, if you have an iPad 2 upgrading to the new one seems stupid as its not such a huge overhaul. For those who dont yet have one its a good time to jump on the wagon.

I don't argue on the price, it's really quite spectacularly high.

Also just noticed its running a Dual Core cpu...Asus and Samsung will be releasing Quad Core tablets in the not to distant future (Next 3 months) and they will almost certainly be much faster and most likely cost a heck of a lot less. I still wanna know how they can justify that price for really almost nothing new/faster excluding the screen and 4G support.
