iPhone 5s on Cell C is suddenly GUZZLING data

i don't understand whats going on, but my phone has burned through 350MB in past hour or so. I checked my data earlier and saw i had 300MB left. about an hour later, i got sms that it was depleted.

I was very puzzled, but i then loaded another 50MB. After a short while, i got SMS that i have 15MB left. i then switched of data usage on every single app, and reset the stats. I left the main "use cellular data" on, but on an application level, switched everything off.

after a few minutes, i got sms to say that my bundle is kaput! :( so even though every app is prevented from using cellular data, something has wiped out the 15Mb i had left.

please help me understand what on earth is going on
 
check in settings
itunes and appstore if use cellular data is enabled (i always keeop that disabled)

if your phone is set to automatically update apps from itunes then it might be that

the itunes --> Use Cellular data was off
the "updates" was on, and i have switched off now, but the above was off so one would hope that would prevent this. what's odd is that nothing different has been done today, which could explain this.

under settings --> Cellular, i disabled every single app. i then switched off the "global" setting as well. then i reset stats and loaded 50MB data. i then checked a few times and stats showed zero usage and *101# showed 50MB available.

i then switched ON the global setting (but left all APPS set to disabled). BOOOM! within a few minutes, the 50MB was gone :mad:
